Default [6.05] Crash when Creating/Loading MIDI Item

[6.05] Crash when Creating/Loading MIDI Item

Due to my extensive use of an external MIDI soundcard and MIDI-reliant VST plugins, this issue has rendered REAPER 6.x unusable for my purposes. I have not seen this issue anywhere else, though I don't believe I'm doing anything out of the ordinary..?

The crash is reproducible, even after multiple computer restarts.

Crashing occurs:
- Regardless of disconnected/reconnected USB Devices (All USB, Includes MIDI)
- On both monitors (1 & 2)
- If a MIDI item is created within a project
- If any MIDI media files are imported into the project
- If any previously created project containing MIDI items is opened
Crashing does not occur if:
- A blank item is created within the project
- A MIDI-reliant plugin is added to a track
- A MIDI Hardware route is set for a track
- A .mp3/.wav media file is imported into the project
- A project that does not contain MIDI items is opened

It appears that I'm simply no longer able to work with MIDI in REAPER 6.0 (6.05). I updated from REAPER 5.x to 6.05, and have since downgraded back to 5.99, where the application behaves properly on my computer. If this can be fixed, however, I would love to continue using the latest version!

i can't reproduce this (win 7 64bit) and i would think there'd be a lot of outcry if this was a common issue.
Have you tried it with a fresh portable install?

(and why is your driver set to 32bit? just curious)

This may be because of a known bug when loading MIDI note names from a file, which will be fixed in the next build.

- I have not tried this with a portable install. I will do this later today, and get back with results.

- I actually don't know why my driver is set to 32bit, though it might be related to the driver I use to output audio/MIDI to an Edirol SD-90. I can monitor via its headphone jack, so it's easiest for me to simply pass all of my digital sounds through it.

- Upon using a portable install of REAPER, I was able to both create a MIDI item, as well as open a project with MIDI items already created. Are there any things that I should specifically check on my regular install that might be interfering with creating MIDI items?

- This version also showed that it was using 24 bit Wav ASIO..? I'm not sure why it's not 32/64/x86, but maybe it has something to do with this?

You could try the latest pre-release and see if it fixes the problem. We expect to release 6.06 within a few days, and the fix should be included in that release.
