I replied way back in this thread to yes, But now with non destructive spectral editing
Spectral Editing in REAPER
just like I use in Audition, but being non destructive I'm able to change my mind.

I guess it is possible to build non-destructive sample editor based on DC offset envelope editing with visual representation.

Non-destructiveness is way overrated. If you need to be able to change your mind:
  1. you just need properly implemented undo in most of the cases
  2. you can always glue a copy and "destroy" that, keeping the original safe

I do destructive editing on saliva noises every day and I've never ever needed more than being able to undo. When it sounds right I'm done with it and go forward, no need to look back again. If I were really concerned of ruining a precious once in a lifetime perfect file, I'd just glue a copy. Done.

There are more use cases than saliva. For example, there is creative sample editing, where non-destructive editing would be beneficial. I'm already doing creative spectral editing and my workflow would be greatly impeded if I had to glue a new copy for every edit. If Reaper is holding numerous undo states it may as well be non-destructive.

probably this could be a extra payed extension to reaper , as things like melodyne extension.
Could be fair and useful and probably profitable.

I'd actually pay extra for an extension 'editor' to Reaper to chop out sounds, do sound design, and mundane edits that i don't need (without glue, renaming etc), so like a double-click to a Wavelab/Sound Forge/Cool Edit style Editor..

Month ago I suggested Justin implement it via DC Offset Take envelope with standard envelope tools. Proper undo, no relations with source, easy to implement, no need to develope something external or change GUI. Justin like my idea so I hope this will be implemented that way.

Personally, I think an audio editor is more apt in a DAW than a Video Editor and Reaper has that. So why not?

Agree. A simple but powerful editor like Cool Edit used to have where you can edit the file in situ but in its own window in an editor style?

This sounds like a good compromise. At least it would work.
