Except.. I have learned that it doesn't pre-record any audio from those settings (like Nuendo's "record x seconds before punching in").
Do you have a solution for that? Any kind of pre-record WITHOUT pre-roll would be helpful.

Would it work if you were using the retrospective record script? There's a script for retrospective midi record and a script for retrospective audio record. That might work. I use the midi one all the time as I never actually go into record.

Tried to make that work in a count-off context. Can't get it to work.
This should be a native feature. Huge for Orchestral. Anything that has tempo changes really.

Completely agree, concerning retrospective record being a native function.
Maybe we should mention it in the Pre-threads, when Justin is less busy fixing.

Ah yea, you're right. That wouldn't work with metronome count-off. Yeah, I think you should put in a feature request for this.

Ok. Let's be smart about this. I hate the way PT does it, they have a feature where the it records the entire count off or by measure. It really really should be by seconds or ms... NOT tempo based. The reason is simple. If tempo based, you will have varying amounts of "air" before each downbeat (depending on the previous tempo or meter). This can be a GIANT PITA later when comping.. especially in a different DAW where start points get lost. So... if you know exactly how many ms or seconds of preroll you have on every recording, it's easy to correct regardless of tempo.
Agreed?

So, basically this is the way Cubase does it, right?
I'm completely fine with that behavior. Free-tempo, so to say.

Or Tempo-Free
Or more clearly... it should just be considered an buffer audio amount in seconds or ms for every recording. Nuendo did do some things right
I have to believe this would be easier for Justin too. No need to factor meter or tempo. Win/Win.
