Default 5.95 Update Issues

When updating to 5.95 this morning, I lost my theme settings and got a bunch of additional midi devices that I have never used before in my MIDI hardware settings.

18i20, Ultralite, UFX, Pro24, Pro40, Line66TonePOrt, Launchkey, Komplete Kontrol

Thankfully I had a backup of my latest config settings and theme/color settings, so it wasn't a huge deal. Anyone else experiencing this?

sounds like you installed a portable version, or a different architecture. check that you installed x64 (or 32, if that's what you use) and make sure you installed to the same location.

Portable install here, 64-bit Reaper 5.95, W7. And I also get a whole bunch of annoying error messages for missing MIDI devices. The error message dialog is easily enough made not to appear, but the MIDI devices tab in the Properties is littered with a long list of MIDI devices. It seems that every MIDI device ever connected to my machine is now listed.

This does not work good. Previous versions worked much better, only showed relevant devices.

Thanks for the response guys, I installed reaper595_x64-install, which matches my system, and it wasn't a portable install. I don't recognize most of those devices (although I do recognize some, my home interface appeared in there) so I assumed it was an issue with the installer.

Sorry for the trouble, read this thread: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=209673

TL;DR: the devices are devices that were previously available on your system and that REAPER prior to 5.94 didn't warn about -- you can do any of the following:
  • ignore the warning
  • tell REAPER not to warn you about this anymore (acting like 5.93 and earlier -- do this in preferences/Audio)
  • or, tell REAPER to forget the devices in the REAPER MIDI device preferences.

Thanks Justin, no trouble. I choose forget all of those devices, and after reading that other thread, it seems this is not a bug. My bad!

Strange, once that new midi device warning is disabled (in preferences or on startup) I can't re-enable it again. Upgraded 5.93 to 595, and also tested on portable installs, clean 593 to 595, used 5941 to 595, once its disabled I can't re-enable it. (Never tested this in pre-release, sorry!)

Win7 / v5.95 / x64

EDIT
The name of the option is "Warn when enabled MIDI devices are not present" and is now fixed in v5.96pre2.

Sorry Justin,

but ignoring doesn´t help here, because I actually can´t get my devices running again.

Oops, thanks, fixing. As a workaround you can quit REAPER, edit reaper.ini, and subtract 32 from the value in the "errnowarn=" line

Ya I pretty much figured that out, anyway it looks fixed in v5.96pre2.

Default errorwarn=6

how can i subtract 32 from a vaule that is only 6 (i mean, -28 does not make any sense, rigth?)

None of my midi in or outputs are working anymore since upgrading and I got 6o+ midi in and outputs in my settings. No I cannot "forget device" because that option is greyed out... Plus, my behringer bcf 2000 doesnt work anymore. Looking in Catia, I can see the device, but I cannot connect it to anything. I am sorry, maybe you have gone over this, but I would love to have my old config back on linux. I use it every day on a professional basis. You might say that I could go back to wine, but that config is producing x runs all the time since a few weeks......and wine does not connect to the behringer either....it does SHOW it however.....So, no midi here and no midi mixing controller.....

Default solution....

I found a solution.....I changed the setting of midi in Cadense to "ALSA sequencer" instead of "Alsa RAWmidi"

Maybe adding 32 works, so the new value would be 38.

If it is "6", that means that it will warn on devices that are not found...
