Here's the VST2 or VST3 I'm trying, it needs other files to run but it should open up without them. The other files will be in drive_c

Ah yeah you should not add the `Common Files/VST3` directories to REAPER's plugin directories. REAPER's blacklisting isn't very smart and it blacklists things by name. So when it sees the Windows VST3 plugin there first, it will blacklist it and also skip over all VST3 plugins with the same name, which would include the Linux VST3 plugin set up by yabridgectl.

Did you manage to get it to work yet? Both versions of the plugin you posted scan and initialize perfectly fine, but they freeze for me without any warnings or anything when they're trying to open the editor GUI, but I'm of course also missing all of the other files so that could very well be the issue here. I'm using Wine Staging (or, wine-tkg) 6.4 here.

I got a crash, you can try with the support files if you like, the folder goes in C:\.

For me the standalone version also freezes in the exact same way as the plugins. Does that actually work for you? I of course don't have the software properly installed so that's very likely to play a role here.

Thanks that got me on the right track.
I tried running the Standalone vst host direct from the Band in a Box external hard drive and it opened and is an older version that also opened in wine drive_c when I replace the new version and opened the actual Biab main app bbw4_64.exe that runs silently in the background but that crashes (see black and blue icon on taskbar) you can try the old one below.
I think as you say I need to get the actual main Biab programming running on the system first, on Mac I had to use PlayOnMac or WinOnX as wine didn't do it.
Thanks again I'll report back...

The main issue is trying to get Windows Media Player install on 64 bit.
This is the only guide I found and could not get it to work on wine Win7 64.
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManag...sion&iId=32057
The main app is basically working except it needs back end of WMP to play/preview the demo in the instrument choosing GUI window.
Same with the VST version.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3y2wjiuxn8...sover.mp4?dl=0

If you see any way of installing WMP 64 let me know.

Can you not point it to use something native to Linux, like VLC?

WMP likely has tentacles that run deep into other Microsoft stuff. Also, when using a bridged Windows plugin in REAPER for Linux, the world looks like Linux to the plugin, so it won't see stuff like C:\Program Files\WMP or stuff that is the Windows world.

Using Windows plugins like EZ-Drummer or EZ-Keys that let you drag-n-drop ready made midi clips into REAPER require a script that a user here wrote because the clips are not found as the plugins are dropping their associated midi clips somewhere in the WINE folder heirachy, and REAPER for Linux isn't looking there. The script moves the midi clips when it sees them to the place where REAPER for Linux is expecting plugins to drop stuff like that.

As soon as I saw the first image I thought "prolly an OLE thing" because while WINE does a bang up job of running individual Windows apps and plugins, it's still not Windows behind the scenes, and is less likely to understand calls directly to Windows embedded components.

If a Windows program running in WINE makes a Windows system call and the stuff it's calling is there and functioning, I would expect it to work, depending on how the call is made.

IOW just issuing wmplayer.exe, the executable might not be found, but issuing "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" would tell WINE exactly where to look for the executable. That's if the call is made from within something running in WINE.

If the call were made in the execution side of Linux, the call would need to spec the file as being located at, "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Windows Media Player/wmplayer.exe".

Are you 100% sure it's actually using Windows Media Player directly? I don't think software past Windows XP does that (or at least they're definitely not supposed to). Are there any other hints for missing binaries, libraries, or something in the Wine logs? OLE is the Microsoft COM library. Lots of software will instance will try to hook into the Windows touch keyboard which hasn't been implemented by Wine, so you'll get some OLE error complaining that class 4ce576fa-83dc-4f88-951c-9d0782b4e376 hasn't been registered. If that software is somehow interacting with Windows Media Player over COM (and it's thus not using Windows Media Foundation instead), then you might be able to Google the class ID to find out what it's trying to use.

Wow so it literally hasn't been updated to use newer technology than what was available in Windows XP? That's crazy. First of all, if you really need to install Windows Media Player (normally I'd recommend to just find a better, actually maintained alternative, but I understand that that's not possible here), I'd recommend starting with a clean Wine prefix just because installing these kinds might create quite a mess, so it's nice to keep this separated from everything else. If you set the WINEPREFIX environment variable to point to a directory, then Wine will use that instead (and make sure that it's not set when using yabridge unless you want everything to use that prefix). You should also not try to install things like Windows Media player manually, there's Winetricks for that. So to install Windows Media Player 11 to a new prefix in `~/.wine-biab`, run `env WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-biab winetricks wmp11` (and wmp10/wmp9 for older versions of Windows Media Player). And then just prefix every Wine command you need to run in that prefix with `env WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-biab wine` instead of just `wine`.

YES I know ! I have spent over 10 years trying to get them out of the Delphi 90's and develop the VST version but it's still using the main Delphi exe in the background, trying now to get them to put it all in the VST as it only uses a few functions of the main app.
Look at this but I don't know if I can just use it on the local file ?
https://github.com/Winetricks/winetricks/issues/1087

I have had so many new prefixes trying so many things.

I normally wouldn't use 32-bit prefixes for anything, but in this case you could try using a 32-bit prefix just for this. Just remove ~/.wine-biab or whatever prefix you're using for this, and recreate it with `WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-biab winetricks wmp9` (only need to use WINEARCH=win32 once, and make sure that it's not set when creating other prefixes because there's usually no need to use it).

I tried creating a 32 bit wine, it went through the installing then said it needs media player 7 installed first.

I made one in Crossover, it had a scripted WMP10 installer and after installing all the other stuff like IE 8 the WMP installer stopped and said you need Win XP 32bit, that's what it was.

It's running good natively on Linux in wine, it's near as quick as on Windows.
The 2 issues are still unresolved,
1. Windows Media Player to play demos (this has been a nightmare trying to get it integrated)
2. CoyoteDXi needed to render in the BBPlugin

They are the 2 issues that need resolving for Linux users.
The wmp can be fixed by adding an internal Delphi player into bbw/bbw4 like http://www.geocities.ws/jovi9200/

The Coyote (used to render midi to wav) issue preventing bbw4 to render can be fixed by getting bbw4 to use a soundfont without the DXi.

The sync playback is in-sync with the track in the DAW.

The latest version Plugin is running

I'll be releasing an update somewhere this week, and I'm wondering if anyone wants to help me test a couple of things out first! Some of the new standout features in yabridge 3.4.0 are a completely rewritten audio processing implementation for lower DSP load overhead, a workaround for mouse cursors sporadically disappearing in JUCE plugins, and support for drag-and-drop from plugins running under yabridge to native applications, along with many other changes and improvements (don't mind the typos ). The Wine->X11 drag-and-drop feature is something I've been wanting to do for a while now as Wine has supported X11->Wine drag-and-drop for ages but not the other way around, and I've finally come up with a not too hacky way to implement it. This makes using plugins like Scaler 2 a lot more convenient, since you can now just directly drag MIDI clips into your DAW. So I'm looking for people who want to test this feature out, since I've only tested it with a handful of plugins myself!

If anyone wants to help me out, you can find the latest binaries on this page. Just make sure you're logged into GitHub, click on the latest build with a green checkmark, scroll down the build page, download the yabridge and yabridgectl binaries for your distro, and overwrite the existing files in ~/.local/share with the new ones. Or alternatively if you're on Arch or Manjaro, you can install the yabridge-git and yabridgectl-git AUR packages. Don't forget to rerun `yabridgectl sync` after replacing the files or upgrading the AUR packages to finish the upgrade!

Thanks.

I just woke up early from dreaming about a way to get drag n drop to work. Then I see this !
In The Biab VST I need to go to media browser because of the drag issue.

Apparently this wasn't quite working in REAPER as I forgot to flush some final spooled XDND messages before the drop happens, but everything works now as expected (this was somehow only noticeable with MT-PowerDrumkit). So if just happened to have already downloadeded a build that's older than this commit from fifteen minutes ago, then you'll need to download a new build first. (probably not, but I felt obliged to mention this )

These changes aren't in an official "release" yet. You'll have to either download the code in the master branch and build it, or if you use an Arch-based distro you can use its package manager to download the "git" version of Yabridge and it'll build it automatically (it's the same as what's on the github master branch).

If you want to try this out, you can download and install the latest master branch build from the automated builds page (so not from the releases page). I'll quote myself again:

That's not quite correct, you don't ever have to manually compile yabridge from source if you don't want to because we have the CI builds I linked above.

Let me know how it went! I pushed another small bugfix just now because I noticed an error in my fix from earlier today that was supposed to work around a quirk in MT-PowerDrumkit (so the commit in the screenshots above) which would cause the first drag to always fail. Note to self: don't implement these kinds of things the first thing in the morning.

I had LinVst on there that installed easy and ran first go with the little GUI it has.
I got rid of the .so from that first.
I got a winedump missing error so I had to install wine tools.
This is what I get now, and the prefix is 64 bit.
I think I had the development version.
Is this going to work in Crossover as well ?

Going to bed, will have another go in the morning

Make sure that you have downloaded the correct version of yabridge for your distro.
This can also happen when using a version of Wine that's not compatible with this version of
yabridge, in which case you'll need to upgrade Wine. Your current Wine version is '5.6 (Ubuntu
5.6-2)'. See the link below for instructions on how to upgrade your installation of Wine.
Finally, if the default Wine prefix over at ~/.wine is set to 32-bit only, this check will
also fail as the 64-bit yabridge-host.exe won't be able to run.

You're using Wine 5.6, which is ancient by Wine standards and simply won't work with the yabridge builds from GitHub (which are built with Wine Staging 6.x). On Debian based distros you really should install winehq-staging from Wine's own WineHQ repositories because the packages Wine versions are just too old and they also behave different from the normal Wine versions in some weird ways:

https://github.com/robbert-vdh/yabridge#preliminaries

You may need to uninstall the distro provided Wine version first to avoid any any conflicts. You can do that with `sudo apt purge *wine*` (so with apt, not apt-get, which would do something similar but subtly different)

Which build did you download? Was it from before this commit I mentioned above? (which fixed exactly the issue you described) I don't have all of the stuff needed for Band-in-a-box to work installed, but I could add a .wav file to the VST3 plugin, and I can drag that into REAPER (or anywhere else) just fine with the latest master branch build of yabridge:

The 184 yabridgectl-3.3.1-184-g2f8bb7ef.tar.gz I downloaded on Windows as I never has the git login on linux to get the latest.
But that's good if there's a fix I will try with the latest build.
I had to load a wav in the Biab VST also as I'm still waiting for them to fix the issue with WMP and another with bbw4 (that looks for a DXi plugin that's not needed) for it to all work. They should do that as not sure if Win11 will still support wmp integration.
The VST2 and VST3 both loading.
It would be good if you had a little GUI for the setup.

Yeah, like I said earlier the first drag will always fail with that commit. (and there are a dozen other edge cases that have been fixed in the latest master branch)

There's a third party GUI for yabridgectl created by the Geekos Daw guys, but haven't tried it myself yet: https://gitlab.com/fpesari/yabridget I don't really see a need for a GUI here (outside of integration in an OS configuration panel, which is nice of course) since yabridgectl really only requires you to rerun `yabridgectl sync` from time to time so it's already about as simple as it can be.

I got an issue trying to install Yabridge in AVLinux-MX. It returns a "Bash: can't find yabridgectl" error even though I'm calling it from inside /.local/share/yabridge

Can someone share some wisdom?

It's mentioned in the second paragraph here: https://github.com/robbert-vdh/yabri...up-recommended

If you run just `yabridgectl` in your terminal, your shell (presumably Bash) will look through the search path directories defined using the PATH environment variable. Because ~/.local/share/yabridge probably isn't part of that environment variable, it cannot find yabridgectl. You need to run ~/.local/share/yabridge/yabridgectl instead, or you can add ~/.local/share/yabridge to your PATH.
