Default Theme/Walter - Alpha value ignored on windows?

While trying to hack-disable the display of the track number when track is not selected in a v6 theme, i realized that the windows just ignores the alpha value. In osx everything works as expected.

The line trying to mod is:
Code:
set tcp.trackidx.color	?track_selected [50 50 50] [255 255 255 1]
Tried in 6.25 and 6.28 with the same results.

IIRC, sort of, its been a very long time but here is the vague reason that was somewhere in the back of my brain: the alpha is used in composition with the text field's code background colour (that you probably don't use), and that is a factor of how windows does text fields.

Are you doing a default v6 mod? If so there are some other ways you could do it.

Just checked and no, this is nonsense.

So it's a bug then? Can you replicate it on your system?

Yes its a bug, I've moved this back to the bug reports forum. Though the 'why' that I remembered was nonsense, I can confirm that text transparency doesn't work on windows and never has.

Any idea how to hide track number on unselected tracks? Thanks.

Yes, several ideas. Answered here because that bit is theme related.

Could this be the reason my nice gradient piano keys look great on a mac but totally flat on a PC?

I don't think so, this bug applies to text transparency in windows version, while image transparency is embedded in the png file itself. Could be different monitor gamma/contrast to blame. Have you tried making a screenshot on each OS and looking at them both on the same monitor?
