Hellwood's God's Back Pocket remake
I've only posted one remake ever (King's X Dog Man), and this is a second in 4 or 5 years. A buddy of mine suggested it and we worked on it together.
Dyl Dylan: Lead Vocs, guitars, bass.
Me: Bkg Vocs, drums, keys, horns, and mix.

Like the groove of this. Keys are sweet and love the satellite percussion.. I might bring up the base kit a little. I think it'd add a little energy..

I think *part* of any lack of energy is from the original files. I asked Dyl to please send me his tracks completely raw and untouched. He promised he would, but once I loaded them up, everything was thin and lifeless. I knew it had to be high-passing, but I checked to be sure. And sure enough, all the tracks except the bass were high-pass like around 100Hz! Sometimes a little less. Still, absolutely no 'meat.'
Since this was just for fun, I didn't want the tell the guy, "hey, you lied to me and thought I wouldn't notice." hah! So I just did the best I could with crispy guitars. He sent me a drum track too, but it was so bright it was unusable. I added my own instead.

That's my present favorite plug for modulation: AudioThing's Tube Modulator. I just turned knobs until I heard something I liked and added a touch of delay.

I like the catchy blues rock rhythm guitar. It's interesting how you played everything kinda loose, not perfectly "together" on everything, and it works. Makes it sound like a band is playing. The only thing I might fix is the kick drum occasionally hits an extra hit where the bass does not follow.
It does get a bit hard to understand all of the words in the louder parts. I can't tell what is interfering with the vocal but it fights it.
Overall nice work, a great start to a catchy bluesy rocker.

Hey man and thanks. Totally agree about the vocals. But I'm not so sure that they're being fought as much as just needing more volume. Could be a combination of both. I'll listen carefully and see. If just turning up still makes them hard to understand, then I'll know to look elsewhere. I appreciate that!
