Default Idea for a Reaper tutorial Youtube channel...

One of you Reaper pro's could do a channel where you give an overview and a complete tutorial on the functionality of every plugin that comes with Reaper, along with cool ways to use each. There's so many js plugins and I bet one could get away with just using all of the included Reaper plugins (in a myriad of iterations) and not have to buy third-party plugins.

There's tutorials on Youtube included as content on other channels (like Kenny Gioia's), but a channel dedicated solely to a granular deep dive would be awesome.

Never mind.... we all gottsa start somewhere

Seriously, Based on the vast collection of Reaper tutorial videos already out there for free and/or on places like groove3, I am not sure how you imagine having a more formalised structure is going to enhance what we have.

Get too specialised on youtube and you are pretty much bound to lose most of your potential audience. Unless it involves train spotting or the secret life of earthworms.

You always can use freeware. There are plenty of decent free plugins nowadays. Moreover, there are lots of giveaways for commerial plugins.

A channel dedicated solely to a forensic deep-dive of every plugin included with Reaper would be awesome.

So how many plugins are included with Reaper? And why others should make videos?

The answer to why others should make the videos is that enujemirp doesn't have the knowledge or ability to do it on their own. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. "Here's a thing I wish existed" seems like a perfectly fine thing to say.

I think it's a great idea for a series. If I had the knowledge (or ear) to do a decent job of it myself I'd give it a go. With a bit of research I could possibly give them a passable treatment, but it'd surely be a more useful series if it was made by (or with) people with experience using them.

And yes, there are far more of them than any one person could reasonably cover. But that's part of why such a video series would be so valuable: at present, the JS page is intimidating and overwhelming. Anything that helped demystify it at all would be great. Even if it ultimately ended up only chipping away at around 10% of it, that's still a net gain for the world.

Okay, I would like to see it, too. But if everyone wants it, no one will do it.

Yes, it's a perfectly innocent thing to wish for, but it also needs a reality check.

This task could only be undertaken by someone with an exhaustive knowledge of all 220+ JS plug-ins, but also with the necessary technical and communication skills to map out and make the videos. If Kenny's and Jon's videos look to have been easily made that's because they're both masters of their craft and make it look easy. Believe me, even for these guys each one is a time consuming job.

If you want an analogy which you can relate to, just consider one of your three minute songs, recorded, mixed, polished, mastered, finished.

Heck it only plays for 3 minutes, right? But how much time went into making it?

Jon Tidey over at The REAPER Blog does plenty of videos about specific Reaper plugins and so does Kenny Gioia over at REAPER Mania.
Dan Worrall also has a couple of very deep and interesting videos about Reaper plugins on his youtube channel.

A temporal anomaly swallowed me up and I only escaped it earlier today.

And sure, obviously it's a massive undertaking, especially if the goal is absolute completion. And I apologise if my "I could take a whack at it" comment sounded like I thought Kenny or Jon were doing easy work; they're not, and I know that even a single video about a single JSFX would mean a lot of time and effort no matter who was doing it.

But I still think it's a useful bit of direction to know that people want to hear about them, and would watch a video about them. In fact I'm starting to wonder if the naysaying is some brilliant bit of reverse psychology and the goal is to make me say RIGHT! I'LL SHOW YOU and get to work on one right now. It might work, honestly. But there'll probably be several minutes of me laughing and saying THEY SAID I WAS MAD at the end of it. And at the beginning of it. And during it. The video'd just be that, really.

I do the odd Reaper related video myself, and to be honest I wouldn't do a full in depth thing other than on a few of them. Would be unbelievably time consuming to say the least.

Partly because I almost never use them, as I mainly use paid plugins that most times do a better job than a lot of the JS ones. I expect that to be the case for a lot of us who either do recording/mixing for a living or have been doing this for a long time and invested in good plugins along the way.

And to be frank, a lot of the JS plugins are quite unnecessary (you can already do the same thing as a lot of them with the Cockos plugins, actions and scripts), and quite a few of them in the list do the exact same thing. A lot are also incredibly specific for one particular situation/workflow.

That said, could be interesting to do something on a few that I find useful.
The regular Cockos plugs have already been well covered by both Kenny, Jon and others.

I have avoided the JS plugins because it's not clear at all what lot of them do. Reminds me of Air Windows

Google the plugins you want to know about. I'm sure you'll find several have been covered in YouTube videos.

There's all the info in the world here on the forum.
But videos feel educational without paying attention or processing the information, watch a vid and you feel like an expert. Feel is the key word. It's not remotely true.

If new, one of the key learnings is how hard this game is and that it takes concentration and persistence.
( The opposite of what video tutorials provide)

Read the forum. Ask Q's - Explore each plugin. Do.

No.
You are confusing me with a reaper pro. I am in my mid to late seventies & only use reaper for demo tracks these days, since I have the luxury of free use of a really pro studio and engineer.

You`ll need to find a reaper pro who actually has enough spare time and enough "wanna" to do this. Good luck with finding one. The pros that are altruistic enough are already doing their tutorial videos. Be hard to persuade them to let you cherry pci what they do next.

I think the other comments on here make sense. With recording, learning by doing is really the best way.

Am pretty sure experienced users started out as utter noobs...

And had to sit in front of reaper and figure things out. Stick sounds through each plugin, see and hear what happens.

Time passes and I now have decent knowledge of the J's plugs.

Ozzifier is often used for doubling effects, i use some of the filters, stereo width for monofying bass etc. And how hard is it to pop on here and say 'hey what's this one do?'
Everyone has them after All..

Yeah, I frequent Kenny's channel quite often. I can't watch Tidey's videos because he makes too much repulsive mouth noise. I'll have to check out out Dan Worrall's channel. However, the point of the OP was that a dedicated channel would be cool.

Hi,
The problem you speak of has more to do with the scattered information online.
I guess what it needs is curation . As most of the earlier posts mention, the information is out there, but it may all be fragmented, just like most of the stuff online.Reaper blog had taken a brilliant initiative of make small insta posts of reapetricks and tips, the posts were very concise and to the point, i know it would have been great if there were small kickstart videos for some of the reaper effects and scripts too. There are some fantastic JS plugs which one does not understand how to use them right off the bat or whether a plugin is even designed for their work.
Maybe we will make a post on the forum where we can pool videos and help of all the JS plugs in reaper.

This makes no sense at all.

With regard to your original post, I can sorta see what you are wanting, but boy are you going about it the wrong way.

Take a deep breath, put on a BIG smile and try to re-word your original "ask" in a way that is more logical and easier to achieve. Also remind yourself that it IS only an ask.

Nicholas knows a few things about Reaper and about documenting it. If you've ever taken a look at the manual (have you?), you've had to read a few of his wisdomisms. Don't be so nasty and show a little gratitude!

To bring in something more constructive into this thread:

I would support such a video-series. At least a comparson of limiters, compressors, eqs and what the differences are and what these difference could be used for would be cool.

I use them rarely, as I simply have no idea, what the farily childish compressor does differently, compared to 1175 compressor. Or if itÄs same same but different.

I have the feeling, I miss out on some cool JSFX-tools, just because I don't get them.
