Some great music out there you all!

Mojo, you can really shred that guitar. :-)

Ieso - Yep, we sure are in KC. We're a bit of pariah here, because most of the local scene here is more hardcore. What places did you used to play? Great stuff by the way.. I'll have to spend more time listening to some of new listings here.

I played around for several years with various projects, the last one was a free-form improv group called Savior Onasis. We used to perform at the Art Institute across the street from the Nelson. Our first SO show was the Beaux Arts festival (I think that was 2001 or 02).

Played with other/earlier bands at the usual places like the Hurricane, Grand Emporium, Flea Market (still a live music venue?) -- one band I was in was actually banned from that place after our second set.

Biggest gig was the Kansas Speedway....played to 6000 apathetic replicants at a charity event for the Red Cross or something like that.

Cool gigs down in the bottoms as well -- a weird and creepy thing we did at the 'Construct Lab' -- doubt anything is going there any more; you know where they do the haunted houses down in the bottoms? We used to perform in those wrecked buildings.

Other places that used to change names quite a bit...is there a place still called The Brick any more? The Zone? I doubt these places are still going...this was years ago.

We played in dozens of other places and towns I've since lost any memory of :P
Little places out in eastern Kansas, Lawrence, up in a little college town on the boarder of Iowa (Marryville or something like that), coffee shops, (there was a Christian coffee shop, in fact it may have been called The Coffee Shop or some such thing) that everybody use to play once or twice before being burned by the owner....bookstores....house parties...you name it, we wasted gas getting there LOL

I think when it was all said and done I made out with $12

Not bad for original music

A lot of those places are still here, although some have changed their names. The Flea Market doesn't do much live music anymore. The Hurricane is now called the Riot Room. The Brick is still around but The Zone and all the clubs in the west bottoms are gone. Of course, Lawrence is always happening. Brings back memories for sure.

Lots of talent in this place. Love it!

Outstanding!

I entered this thread knowing full well that I had no business posting my stuff and that was confirmed 100-fold after hearing just a few tracks from the first few posts. All great. I then skipped right down to the bottom and queued up Mr. Coleman's lone track, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'll be checking out more of these as I get some time. (Stewart, I'm looking forward to hearing more from you!)

If you're interested in making yourself feel better about yourself, have a go at my attempts...

Feedback/critique is always appreciated. I know the production isn't great and the playing is sloppy at times so feel free to bash it all you want.

very cool to see this thread still alive.

dumb thing about ReverbNation is that it will only allow a person to 'friend' 1000 bands/musicians and then you're done adding friends, though, others can still friend you.

i'd guess that's to prevent some members to "game the system" by adding every single artist on the site just to boost their own rating. a thousand sounds pretty arbitrary, but i guess they had to draw the line somewhere....?

related: did any of you get and/or fill out their recent survey?

Heh...I'd post one, but...I've spent 30+ years teaching myself to be un-original by playing in cover bands.

http://www.kcgroovetherapy.com/

One of the most recent ones. Got a new project (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot) ramping up, but no web site yet. Rock for grown-ups...Steely Dan, Squeeze, Billy Joel, Elton John, Elvis Costello, and even some Alan Parsons Project. Throw in enough other rock, pop, and country to avoid being pinned in a single genre and there you have it.

We'll probably bore people to tears or confuse them hopelessly (the band acronym IS WTF, after all...), but it sure is fun to play something with actual chord changes.

Sorry for the minor derail...

Scott

Listened to your stuff on reverbnation. COOO - el!

Things I love:

variety
not too fussy but not too sloppy
ear friendly but full of dissonance too
love the "room," the echoing space you create
NO drums - yeah!!

Most of the pieces (by design probably) were short. I would love to hear more expansive, composed pieces.

Any lyrics?
