Default Edit/Play Cursor - is there a 'do nothing' option?

Honest, I've searched forums, preferences and action list.

1. Space - Play/Pause, play cursor jumps to edit cursor.
2. Ctrl+Space - Play/Pause, edit cursor jumps to play cursor.
3. Can I just Play/Pause without moving either play or edit cursor?

Mainly so that if I find a clip or something, I know where it is without losing my start point.

I would think it doesn't really make sense for the play cursor not moving when playing. Edit cursor defines the playback start point. When the playback is paused, edit cursor moves to the current pause position, thus setting it as a new playback start point.

So I gather what you don't want is for the edit cursor to (always) jump to that pause position? Furthermore, you still want to control the play/pause with the space bar?

Following topic has few solutions to these:
Play/Stop, Pause..(a better way)

Thanks a lot, I'll try those macros - I've now reassigned Play/Pause to 'Space' and Play/Stop to 'Enter', which I find much more intuitive.

Why the cursor thing? For example, I might be doing some envelope editing, and as I play a track, I still want to see the point where I started from. If both cursors immediately jump to the same point on stop it can be annoying - you lose your exact start or finish place. It's not a big deal, just that a third option like that would seem to be logical.

The macros seem to be a complicated solution to a simple problem - but that's all there is. However, using Ctrl+1, +2, etc to place markers rather than stopping/pausing at then desired spot works for me.
