Default What is pitch/envelope processing?

I was reading the manual for Addictive Drums and in there it talked about being able to apply pitch/envelope processing to a drum. What is this about?

It means you can apply automation to change the pitch of drums in a drum track. It's possible to make your sound like you are tuning them while they are being played.

I don't see much need for that really but then I'm not very creative with drums, could make some very silly noises or change the tuning for different parts of the song perhaps.
