Default Pan/Balance

When I first used reaper the pan feature would move the sound all the way into my left headphone if I panned left 100% and the right headphone would be silent. Now it just changes the sound, but it doesn't actually change the volume in either ear.

Does anyone know how I can make a track play in only one headphone or maybe 70/30, etc?

I use it play along with music and I like to be able to adjust the volume in each ear of the music I'm playing along to and my own instrument I'm playing along with so as to better hear both my own playing and the music I'm trying to emulate.

I appreciate any help with this

Sounds like either you only have one output channel enabled in preferences/audio/device (you need 2 for stereo) or your master track is in mono.

This can also happen if your headphones are plugged only partway in.

Above the Master track fader is an I/O button - Click on that and make sure that the width is set to 100% or modify it to your desired outcome

Thanks for the help.

It's not in mono as I've checked that. I'm not sure about enabling outputs. IN preferences/audio/device. I have 'enable inputs' checked there for output range there are two bars labeled first and the other is last, first is output 1 and last is output 2 there is no option to enable or disable.

I have width set to 100% on master track that seems to have helped as one side does get louder, but it's still not 100% in one ear and 0% percent in the other. Each ear still gets sound.

What pan mode are you using?

For what you want, you need pan/balance, not stereo pan.

Check your interface software and software monitoring fx in REAPER. Also check that REAPER's master doesn't have mono turned on.

In my case it had a stereo mode which I switched on. Some have separate versions for mono and stereo. Or you can just remove it. The Project Bay lists all fx in the project so you can easily troubleshoot for such issues.
