Default Deathdrumz - Hi-Def Death - New YouTube Video Using Reaper and Toontrack's SD3

Hi everyone,

This is my second song using Reaper! I got a great response from the community on my first video 'Truth'. I hope that this one goes down just as well!

https://youtu.be/Wt9biKbwjaU

Apart from using Reaper and Toontrack's Superior Drummer 3, I'm mainly using free software. The guitars are done using STL Tone's Ignite Emissary Amp, NadIR and Tubescreamer. The bass is done using Bass Professor Mark II. All dynamic processing is done using MeldaProductions free suite.

If anyone wants any settings or channel strips let me know! Equally if anyone has any feedback for the track, I'm all ears!

Thanks again,

Al

Really cool!

Loved the riffs and chord sequences. Great drumming.

As for feedback, the guitars are a bit boxy sounding, and could do with more girth. For this kind of music I'd reduce the dynamics of the bass even more, so it's almost a brick waveform, as it's really just adding sub to the guitars. None of that stopped me rocking out to it though.

Definitely need some growling in the next one though.

Greeat feedback Judders - thank you!

Noted with the guitars and bass. For my next release, I'll attenuate the mids in the guitars and add a little more sharpness (hopefully without fuzz), and some more low end to get that girth.

For the bass I'll probably do some more limiting to ensure it gets locked in.

Haha, yeah I'm looking for one or many vocalists to work with on my tracks so if you or you know anyone who fancies it, give me a shout!

I greatly appreciate your time on listening and writing back!

The general guitar tone is really cool, I don't think it would need much EQ, and it's tough because you don't want to lose that midrange growl, so probably some narrow targeted cuts somewhere between 300 Hz and 800 Hz.

Thank you mate. Gonna be looking straight into this when I get back tonight. I imagine it'll be that epiphany moment when it's done right and I notice the power and clarity I get. Cheers mate!

Are these actual guitars or is it a VSTi like Shreddage or RealEight? I'm guessing it's a VST, but I could be wrong.

But I like it.

Thanks for checking it out man! No, they're real guitars, I'll be posting the guitar playthrough in the next week or two.

Looking forward to it. I'd love to have a really decent set of eDrums like yours. How much "correcting" do you have to do to the MIDI drum tracks once it's recorded?

Yeah the kit was a heavy investment, but I was lucky enough to be able to do it and it's totally worth it (for me anyway).

At the start, I did a lot of editing in regards to velocities on the MIDI map but since then I've made the best settings on the velocity maps for each drum and cymbal. In the end it turns out I was overthinking the velocity maps.

The drum kit has it's own velocity maps and so does the software. I've ended up leaving the velocity maps mostly flat on the software, except for the kick where I set everything past 100 to equal 127 and anything below 20 to equal 0. Then it was just setting either 'hard' or 'loud' curves on cymbal or drum pads on the eDrum module.

It could sound like a lot but it was quite a quick process. Since then it plays and feels like the real thing Although I'd still rather have a permanent studio setup for my real kit, but that's a dream.

Thank you for checking the tune out
