Just noticed that I dont think these guys have been mentioned yet:
Krakli Synths- Simply astounding how many free synths are here (dont forget the archived ones!)
Odo synths
B. Serrano synths -particularly Adonis (awesome)
HG fortune-STS 26 is just insane.
And finally, prolly my most favorite:
NOVAkill synths-
Numerous and POWERFUL.

VisualVox VST(like autotune or v-vocal)
VisualVox VST is an intonation correction plugin.
With it you can:
* Shift notes of a voice recording to perfect intonation.
* Fit a voice recording into rhythm by stretching, cutting and moving parts of it.
* Fit a voice recording to another key with minimal pitch changes.
* Produce a perfect vibrato.
* Visualize how right or wrong you can sing.
* Create artificial polyphony from single voice recording.
* Design frequency curves freely with your mouse.
* Let the plugin improve intonation automatically.

Holy crap, this thread freaking rules. I can't believe how much great stuff I've gotten out of here.
Looks like I missed the boat on the Antress stuff though. Each link I've followed in this thread redirects to the SSL website.
Oh well. Tons of great stuff for me to go play with. Actually, I think it'll take me quite some time to see which ones I like best. I've got like ten limiters, four compressors, ten EQs, three choruses, three delays, and about fifty reverb impulses to go try out. And that's not counting any of the included ReaFX, the Kjaerhus stuff, the Yohng limiter, or the SIR1011 reverb, all of which I already had.
Yikes. Brain fried. How can there be so much great free stuff out there? Why on earth do people still buy plugins with all this stuff floating around?

That is a very good question and one that I ask myself quite a lot. Some of the VSTis I have for free are as useable as others costing $100s. Mind boggling isn't it.

Synful Orchestra demo
Any orchestral composing type Reaper users tried the Synful Orchestra free 15 day demo? It's unclear on the site whether you can re-install the demo after the 15 days expires, but they say it allows installation if you have already installed previous demos. It sounds interesting - MP3 demos on the site seem remarkable considering this is not a sampled library, but a synthesiser that produces pretty realistic sounds and articulations from playing styles. Probably an orchestral purist would diss it, but to these untrained orchestral ears it sounds convincing enough for a lot of purposes. It's about £245uk to purchase, but I guess if you can produce something in 15 days or less, it qualifies for this thread on free plugins (check if the demo license covers commercial use if needed, of course). It's at http://www.synful.com/ Cheers

you can pitch correct quite easily with reapers native pitch tools. but i would recommend just re-recording the tracks if they're out of tune.
and check out freeamp for a free guitar amp plugin.

Just 2 suggestions:
- on the "light" side, you can try Prova http://smatni.tripod.com/safwanmatnivstplugins/
- on the (very) heavy side, try the SynthFont VSTi ( http://www.synthfont.com/) with the Maestro Concert Grand sample bank (available here: http://lesitedeburnie.free.fr/matshe...aestro-en.html).
From the site: "So, the Maestro Concert Grand v2 is a big giga bank using 792 stereo samples of a concert piano, a Yamaha CF3, recorded with two Neumann KM84 microphones, disposed in X/Y, with 5 velocity layers, and weighs 932 MB ! The piano alone, without release samples, weighs 887 Mb and 440 samples. The release samples are 352 and weigh 45 MB. You can play with or without them."
You need SynthFont to play these samples (.gig format). It takes a few hours to download the library...
Using SynthFont (the VSTi version) in Reaper is not straightforward, because Reaper crashes when you close the VST window (if you have made any modifications to it - at least, this is what happens to me - and I don't know if the crash is a Reaper or a SynthFont problem). So, follow these steps:
- create a track
- save your project (remember, Reaper will crash...)
- open the effects window, choose synthfont
- select the sound bank
- close the effect window -> Reaper crashes...
- reopen your project, reopen the effects window, re-select SynthFont
- You're done ! If you open Synthfont, you'll see that the bank is still here. If you don't do any other modification, you can close the window, and Reaper won't crash this time.
Warning: SyntFont doesn't use disk streaming, which means that the entire sample set is loaded in memory. On an empty project, with just SynthFont and the sound bank, Reaper takes about 1Gb RAM. It is the price to pay for a really good free piano... This also means that Reaper will take some time to start.
Enjoy !
Bruno

I quite like the mdaPiano ( http://www.pluginspot.com/English/frames.html)
It is very small PM effort that you can tweak to suit your playing style.
Very low CPU hit also.

The Ultimate Sampler-Workstation
Check out www.yellowtools.com for "Independence Free 2.0" It works perfectly inside REAPER.Limitations: Audio import is disabled. I have High Speed DSL & Downloading it & the 8 Sample Librarys still took some time (Slow), But it was worth it. Highly Recomend! Later......

G&S CW Drum Kits 1&2
http://www.autodafe.net/dblog/storico.asp?s=Samples
Downloads:RAR file 185mb-includes wav & Halion patches
Also there is a download option for .sfz format (Have Not Tried That File Format, I run SF2 files inside VSTSynthFont.
You can use a file converter to convert G&S files to SF2 if thats your preference.
I have SoftDrum LTD 12 & 6 by Fretted Synth Audio & I import the wav files into it. Multi-Channel it out & its set.
G&S comes w/ a multitude of kit pieces at different velocitys and sounds stellar.

I'm cleaning out my VSTi folder to see what plugins will remain for use in Reaper, came acros this synth:
This is tmo one of the most incredible free synths around, just download it and listen to the presets. TIP: hold a chord a bit longer, there's all kinds of things happening
Also, just start clicking on the interface (display values and such) as it is also completely incredible what functionality is hidden there.

Kore Player is free and comes with a some instruments. The addon-packs are buyware. You must activate Kore Player with a challenge-response system, but it IS free.
Haven't tried it yet myself, it's installed but the challenge-response thingy is fiddely because my DAW is not internetted.

The post before mine (is now removed) stated that NI FM7 and ReFX Vanguard was free and linked to a .ru site!
I know about the ReFX Claw, which is great but not supported by them anymore. Soon they will release the ReFX Scout, also freeware (keep an eye out for that one).
Another good but cpu hungry synth is Genesis (special version will soon appear in CM magazine) check it out at www.ummetozcan.com
These synths have probably been mentioned already:
Negspect Atlantis
GreenOak Crystal
Audjoo Helix
Nubi+ (very hard to find a working link)

Just a few weeks ago I sold my ESQ1 synth (among other things) as I'm moving into virtual synths completely now. I have many great VSTi synths that can fill the gap (Albino, Pro53, Tera, just to name a few). However, I stumbled upon a free VSTi emulation of the SQ80/ESQ1 and it sounds very close to the real deal. So I'm very happy to have this one as well
The only real limitation is that it's 'only' eight voice polyphonic, but hey my ESQ1 was also eight voice poly.
For those that don't know the Ensoniq synths: they combine digital wavetable oscillators with analog filters. The result is a very versatile instrument that can do bright digital sounds close to DX7 and PPG stuff, as well as fat warm analog things (the ESQ1 bass sounds are earth-moving).
So if you are looking for a very versatile 'bread and butter' synth, or just a great sounding one to complement others, grab this one (before it dissapears, you never know).
It's here: http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/
