Default Valhalla Room

A new reverb has been released that imo is killer.

http://www.valhalladsp.com/valhallaroom

Very organic and versatile. Highly recommended.

Sounds interesting. Particularly being true stereo. I must say though, that is one ugly UI!!

Edit - The UI has grown on me now to the point where I actually REALLY like it!!!!! How things can change!!!

I'm just listening to the demos and this does indeed sound lush and interesting. I'm going to download the demo installer and have a play.

It would appear the sound more than makes up for the UI which I could get used to (and even possibly grow to like?!!)

Hmmm... It has crashed REAPER here a few times now. Each time, it has been when I've opened the patch browser to change the patch.
It seems to be OK otherwise.

Some Reaper users have reported crashes while browsing. I got crashes while browsing at first but the crashes have since disappeared.
Here's a thread by the developer.

Didn't take me long to change my mind about the GUI. It actually works in well with my theme design

I love that verb ... bought it right after it was released

I'm not getting any crashes either. I'm sure Sean will fix it for you all.

I somehow managed to let myself get a bit bored this morning ... listened to Nick Drake's Pink Moon in REAPER and played around with really subtle doses of V_Room

...

This reverb is amazing imho.

@Danni I love the GUI...
@hopi to each their own...I prefer it to Aether. Soundwise, price-wise, authorization-wise. Ease of use...love it. The only other reverb in the sub $500 range that holds a candle to it is RP Verb. imho.

lovely
Pink Moon is one of my standard reverb test tracks, along with "Tom's Diner" (A Capella) by Suzanne Vega. I use Pink Moon (and occasionally "Horn" off the same album) because they are totally dry tracks, with very little room reverb. In addition, the stereo miking used on the "Pink Moon" album will sound bad with reverbs that sum to mono, so it is a good way of making sure that the stereo spread sounds good in the reverb output.

Vocals are a good stress test for reverbs as well, as the asymmetrical shape of the glottal waveform is pretty close to a pulse waveform. This will cause any unpleasant resonances in the reverb to ring like a bell.

Plus, I've heard "Pink Moon" several thousand times at this point, and it is still a beautiful song.

I love it - it fits in well with my theme lots of gray, only colour where it actually helps to have colour

That made me chuckle when I read it. I have fond memories of watching Sesame Street many years ago. I still remember when colour television came in in Australia and we got to watch Sesame Street in colour!!! (I'm showing my age here!!!)

Yikes aethers gui is a bit complex no?
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep0.../Aether_01.jpg

Breeze is way more my cup o' tea
http://rekkerd.org/img/201012/2C_Breeze_thumb.jpg

Eos is also really nice both in sound and gui

Vahalla shimmer got some good press so I'm gonna give this demo a try. The gui may be big and ugly but at least its not mind-numbing like aether.

Breeze, Eos and Vahalla together cost alot less than my Lexicon MPX 500 did. These are good times to be recording.

I'm pretty sure Sean from Valhalla did or was involved with the Eos algorithm ... don't quote me on that

Next to the drop-down where you normally choose presets in the Reaper FX window, there is a square which you click and then select 'import preset library'.

Is there an advantage to using the reaper-converted presets instead of the factory ones?

It lets you scroll through with your mouse wheel or cycle with keyboard arrows etc, and some had bugs with the onboard preset system hanging or causing crash.

Cool, I'll give it a try. Btw, the preset crashing has been fixed apparently, you should have an email from Valhalla about update 1.0.3.

Oh man, I LOVE this reverb!!!! Sean, you've excelled yourself with this one! Those big spaces are just so lush and that is exactly what I was looking for. VERY cool. Purchase made.

As I mentioned in the other thread, the 1.0.3 update seems to have fixed the crashes too.

I can't believe I used to like Aether's old GUI so much... the new one is MUCH cleaner. Aether has many options, so it can be called complex, but it's worth reading through the manual for utilizing all it's capable of.

Breeze is actually a great reverb... I used only Breeze on this track here, while helping with beta-testing (also one of the first tracks I've completed in Reaper): http://soundcloud.com/elxsound/battle-for-asgard

Sean Costello (valhalladsp) is behind the algo for Eos...

ValhallaShimmer, is an absolute favorite of mine. I personally don't use it for rooms, halls, etc... but I love the pitch control and I love how beautiful it sounds. The name is absolutely on point.

ValhallaRoom, is one of the cleanest reverbs I've used, and I my opinion is that it has it's own niche in the reverb market, because it's just damn clean. I don't have many other descriptions for it, because that's what stands out the most to me.

V'ger,

How did do do the presets things? One by one, or is there a way to batch-convert a group of presets all at once? A lot of my plugins could benefit from it...

( Hi Dannii, how's the video footage going? )

I assume you mean the AVPA presentation footage? The presentation isn't until next Tuesday but it will take them a couple of weeks to get the footage to me. I'll be combining this presentation with my previous one for the upload.

I would give my mother's arm and a leg for a preset conversion feature, no this was done one by one.
