Range Tool

I´ve been using reaper quite a while and managed to recreate some features that i use in pro tools, using action combined and all that stuff but i really would like to have a range tool per track / item. is it possible ?

Is it something that could also be called "area"? There are requests to add such a thing to Reaper.

But I'm not sure I understand what exactly they are asking for. And as I haven't used PT before I have no idea what the range tool does.

In Pro tools while playback is ON i can do so much edit and not disturbing the playback, like this:

In reaper i changed a mouse modifier for right click + drag and select a range and then i added this toolbar action to split item at time selection, using this it prevents the playback head to move to the selected position and stopping the timeline from going on my loop selection. I thgink that With a dedicated range tool all could be made easier.

In pro tools the time selection is made ignoring the playback , if that option is set to On or OFF, in reaper no matter what i try on mouse modifiers or any other option i cant replicate this behaviour.

I have made some progress with this since i posted the animated GIFs. i can now have a time selection playing and shift + control i can select a range to edit, but if loop is enabled the playback head moves to my new selection....this is boring...ehheeh

You can tweak editing behavior in Preferences -> Editing Behavior:

* DISable "Link loop points to time selection". (Alternatively, use the Actions "Set/Unset/Toggle loop points link to time selection". You can link the Toggle action to a toolbar button to easily unlink time and loop while you are editing.)

* DISable "Move edit cursor to start of time selection on time selection change".

yeh but ...doing 30 things to have a range possibility is not functional, i think. It could be part of te mais DAW not tweaks..
