Default Simple routing problem.

I have a single track containing a MIDI item which is played by a virtual instrument, but on playback I want to send the MIDI data also to an external device (IAC). What is the routing setup for this?

One option to check out is assigning a MIDI Hardware Output in the Routing window of the Track.

Assuming the MIDI Output is already enabled in the Preferences - shown at around 1:30.

Thanks, but it doesn't work for me as I have an instrument on the track (VST sforzando) which has no MIDI output. So I would need to send the MIDI out *before* it goes into the VST. Is this possible somehow?

In sforzando, right-click on the I/O Routing and choose Merges with MIDI Bus

This will allow MIDI to pass through to the HW Output.

Alternatively you could create a MIDI send (pre-FX) to another track and then use ReaInsert or MIDI HW Output from that track... The benefit of this is that you can also adjust for time delay compensation.

Thanks a lot. Setting MIDI thru of the VST works perfectly for me. I'm amazed that this routing can be done with a single track (coming from Ableton Live where another track is required).
