Default Can Markers and Regions stick to items [in stead of time]?

Hi,

Can't find the answer anywhere ...
When I do an audiobook, I record every chapter in one track and make a region for every chapter. Works very well since all settings/FX are the same for all chapters and I can render separate chapters with the regions.

The only thing ... is that I can't 'stick' the regions to the chapter/items when I edit. How do I explain this ...
I record a chapter. 10 minutes of audio let's say. I make a region for that item. Than I edit it, slipt stuff, cut away mistakes, move parts a bit around and so forth. By the end, the item/chapter is 7 minutes for example. Is there a way that the region 'sticks' to this chapter? That it 'follows' the editing in some way? So that it also is 7 minutes in the end and beginning and end of the chapter are still within the region?

Same goes for markers. I don't use them a lot, mailnly because they don't move along with my items. They stick to a point in time.

To summarise. Markers and regions seem to 'stick' to points in time. Is there a way to make them 'stick' to items?

I'm not 100% sure this will do exactly what you want, but try enabling Ripple Editing for all tracks (options menu). I think you should be able to work within this framework.

PS Worth your while to read section 7.30 of your free PDF User Guide for more comprehensive explanation. It should help you to apply it to your situation.

Let me know if you need any more help with this.

i haven't moved a marker or region manually in something like 4 years, i only move items

this is how regions, markers, and (not yet implemented, but tempo changes) should have worked all along.
more functionality needs to be based on the fundamentals of moving items, which REAPER does really well,
instead of creating new infrastructure

I know ripple editing very well. Thanks nicholas. Ripple All Tracks seems to do the trick for markers. But not for regions. But the script of mccrabney seems to do the trick very well. And together with the Auto Color extention by SWS I'm all set to go!

Thanks!

i use a simplified, early version of heda's great script. my variant doesn't have a visible GUI and just 2 tracks, one for regions and one for markers. let me know if you need it
