"You may not have the necessary permissions..."
Per the new UPDATE 5.980 all of a sudden I'm getting this dialog box/error message: "You may not have the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program you are about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continue to run the program as the current user."
Never see this before, never had to login as administrator- and so I can't apply the update. I don't HAVE an administrator password on my machine.
What gives??

Does it give the error or ask for a username and password when you right click and choose "Run as administrator"?

See the attached image.
This comes up on my laptop as well- so it's not my computer. This is something someone did at Reaper with the installation.
????
Okay, I was able to RIGHT CLICK on the .exe file and run as administrator.
But I've NEVER had to do that before. Previously, all I needed was to click on the file and run it.
Why the change?

Possibly something changed on your machine. It's also possible the Reaper installer changed but that's a leap/guess. Normally, reaper forces that dialog for you so you don't have to do the right-click thing you just did. If you right click the installer and choose properties is there an "unblock" checkbox visible?

A Reaper Thing.
Nope, nothing changed on my computer- and note, the same thing on my laptop, again, no changes. So, it's a Reaper thing.

I just tried it, it doesn't do that on my machine. It invokes UAC automatically just like it should.

Weird. I wouldn't have posted this note had I not noticed something different. A Reaper admin. needs to look at it- I'm sure I'm not the only one this is going to happen to.
Tried it on a second desktop and second laptop- didn't come up on those. Same OS on all, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (32bit on second laptop.
Who knows what's up. Didn't make any changes on Desktop 1 and Laptop 1, but noticed it right away.
In any case, I'll just have to Run as Admin. with a right click if this keeps up in the future.
Thanks
Neil

Apparently this was the issue:
>>>>On my "old" Windows 7 I get a missing signature warning when opening the downloaded installer. Usually those files were signed.
Website hacked and I am screwed?
THEN:
>>>>Thanks! Looks like something broke on our build machine and it didn't get signed! It should be fixed now (please test!)
Tested on two other machines after this, and now okay.

Had the same thing with 5.981 today (and the update before too), closing the installer and running it again went normally. Pretty odd!
edit: don't laugh, 32 bit version.

I cannot download the new version of Reaper due to this issue. I have even typed the known password for the administrator (me) on my machine and it always comes back with "incorrect credentials, you may not have the necessary permissions...".

I've had that when trying to launch the installer from Firefox after it finishes downloading, say's I don't have the privileges. Launching the exe directly works fine. It's happened for the past few releases but I doubt it's a Reaper issue.

I had this problem with my windows 7 pro
when I updated.
I had to get into BIOS and other things to
take over ownership with passwords etc
I bumbled around for a few days
Don't ask me what I did that is the fundamentals of it.
The latest update (a couple of weeks ago) was when I needed to activate a plugin (my PC is off line.
After that update things stayed as they were so all good.
Windows must still be correcting things.
Before the first problem I had no passwords
after the first update I had to get around them in BIOS.
In the end I have one password to load and one to use Windows 7 Pro.
