Thanks for the work you have put into these projects, SMM, Tod and Suleiman. This is a great sounding kit, and this is coming from someone with Steven Slate Drums IV and its expansions, all the NI Abbey Road Drummer kits, as well as several large third party sample packages like NS_Kit_7.
Very cool of you guy to make this available.

Hi drtedtan and thanks. I was hoping it would be Kontakt, I didn't have anybody to beta test it so any comments or problems you might run into I'd really like to know.
Also there's one thing I forgot to mention in the manual, if you turn the Info button on at the top in Kontakts main menu, there are also tool tips that show up in the info box when you hoover over a control. This just basically tells you what the control is.

Thanks for the heads up, Tod. I probably won't have time to really dig into this until around Christmas, but I'll let you know if I find anything.

Just to let you know I've added a new section for TX16Wx programming that Suleiman put together.
It's on the top post.

I saw the post for these drums on KVR and thought I would give them a try but have been unable to download the sample files.
Each time I've attempted it the download gets to just over a gigabyte and google reports "Network error"? I copied the link to Free Download Manager(as it allows restarts)and it fails also, reporting "Invalid username/Password" when attempting restarts. Never had a problem with Google Drive for smaller files.
Just wondering if you had any ideas...
Thanks

Hi MRT, I just downloaded "SMD Stereo Cymbals (Hats, Rides, & Crash cymbals) [1.8gig]" and didn't have any problems. I did this with Google Chrome, which provider or net browser are you using?
There have been one or two others that had problems but it was related to their net browser so if possible I'd appreciate if you'd let me know what you find out.

Also using Chrome with AT&T for service. The reason I posted is that I very rarely have similar issues. I found it odd that it failed on more that one occasion.
Thanks for the reply.

Okay, thanks MRT, I'm not sure what might have happened. It worked fine for me, I guess just wait to see if any others have problems.

Thanks SMM, yeah I gave it a little face lift.
I'm getting ready to add another snare and some more projects with more FX that I think sweetens them up a little bit. The new little funky demo has the new snare.

So here is a fun one with regards to saving disk space with TX16Wx: It can actually read FLAC files, but it will only write wav files whenever it saves modified samples. So if you want to save a bit of disk space without losing quality, its possible to batch convert samples to FLAC and update the XML files to point to these instead of wavs.

Will that save RAM or just disk space? The RAM usage is killing me.

Hi funkypc, and welcome to the forum.
Which sampler are you using?
I am working on a way that you can load the exact instruments into RS5K that you will use, which will help some.
If you're talking about Skrylar's post, then I'm not sure. At this point the TX16Wx is using all the SMDrum's stereo samples, so it's pretty big as far as the RAM usage goes. I didn't program the TX16Wx so I don't know a lot about it, but there must be a way you can eliminate parts that you don't use. When I get time I'll look into that and see what I can do.

Thanks for the welcome.
I tried using TX16Wx first, on my laptop with ableton live, not realizing the RAM usage.
I imagine if switching to flac saved RAM, it could increase processor usage, and add a little latency.
I am planing to try RS5K next on my mixing computer with Reaper after I add a bit of RAM.

Hi wurlt01, You'll need to download the SMD Stereo Cymbals Samples (Hats, Rides, & Crash) and the SMDrums Drums Samples (Kiks, Snares, & Toms) from my first post.
The SMDrums Drums Samples (Kiks, Snares, & Toms) link has a zip file called SMDrums.zip which contains a folder called SMDrums. That folder has the kik, snare, and toms samples as well as all the nki, nkm, nkc, nkr and resource files. You'll want to put the stereo cymbal samples in that folder too.
If you have any problems let me know.

I put off getting this as I had already downloaded the raw files plus Suleimans edits for his 'Mega' kit.
Curiosity (and necessity for a streaming version) finally saw me download your 4.7 GB Kontakt beast, Tod.
I've only just started using it but so far I'm very impressed with the work that you've put in.
Thanks so much for providing so many different versions (nki's). I was looking for Toms and Cymbals to add to another Kick and Snare that I had. This makes it so easy.

Your welcome Hamish, and yes I also prefer the individual nki files. There are a lot of ways to build different drum kits that way.
I'm going to have an update sometime soon for Kontakt, hopefully in the next couple of days.
I'm hoping to upgrade RS5K and TX16Wx too, but it will take a bit longer.

Just a quick thanks Tod - amazing work, much appreciated
Also worth adding a quick snippet I found when loading the 2847 set on W7 32 bit - even if you have max 4gb RAM it will fail on memory errors. You need to enable the 3GB switch on XP, Vista or 7 to allow applications to address more that 2GB memory.
Quote:
To enable the 3GB switch:
1/ Right-click on the Command Prompt icon in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
2/ At the command prompt, enter: bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072.
3/ Restart the computer.

Yes, that's been discussed a lot. Unfortunately there are no free samplers that have DFD (Direct From Disk) capabilities, at least non that I know of.
Were you able to utilize the smaller ones?
Also keep in mind, you can remove the kit pieces you don't need for any particular song or project. That can help a lot.
Something else that may help, save each kit piece as an FXChain and then just load the ones you need.

Just a little bump to let folks know that I've added another snare to Reapers RS5K. This snare has a lot more snap for those song's that require that snap.
So far it's only for Reaper and RS5K but Kontakt will be coming soon.
I think this snare adds more usability to the SMDrums and hope you find it that way too.
