Maybe I'm spoiled but $400 for a guitar plugin seems kinda steep.

It's great that the sound matches the hardware. I'll be checking it out more, for the moment I can only say I love the simplicity of the interface.

$400 might be a bit much, but considering it matches the hardware... Also note that you can process anything with it, not just guitars.

I like Line 6, find their stuff useful and it's really cool there's finally a software suite update, POD farm is kinda ancient. Will wait for sale tho

Default Helix Native crash

Hey guys, got a bit jealous and went to try the plugin (looks awesome!!)

installed OK, going to load plugin (tried vst3 and vst2) and it crashes my whole reaper session (when I am expecting the trial activation screen)

running reaper 5.40 on intel pc and profire 2626 never have had any similar issues

any ideas?

Edit 23.08.2017: Try installing VC++ redist if you get this
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=40784

this solved my issue (after a ticket with L6 support)

You should probably be directing that report to Line6. It installed and ran and activated fine over here.

yeah, no it doesn't. I don't find it revolutionary, but it certainly has some great tone and variety

is anyone "feeling" a lot of latency with this? REAPER is telling me only 55 samples, so I don't think that would be causing it

Nope, works as good as any other ampsim over here as far as latency is concerned.

To me it's not hard to be better than Bias. So yes, IMHO Helix is better, more efficiently coded, and responds better to playing.

I find the quality of S-gear to be just as good, but there is something about the preset system and layout - the choosing of amps, etc - to be a lot easier in helix.

Interesting, I'd hate to plug 400 bucks if S-Gear can do the job - The other thing I like about S-Gear is simplicity, choose an amp, turn a couple knobs, done - I don't really need everything but the kitchen sink.

I don't use SIMs exclusively so there needs to be a big sonic win that I don't already have.

S-Gear sounds great. That's it. It lacks in a lot of other areas - the GUI is becoming not good (things too tiny, no resizing possible), it's becoming a bit sluggish to load (this on an SSD!), and preset management is atrocious, honestly. What hurts most is in the FX department, it's pretty bad there (even though the three included effects are pretty good).

On the other hand, Helix limits you to 128 IRs (in order to be au pair with hardware) and you can only use 1024 and 2048 point IRs. Oh, and if you use a 2048 IR, you cannot use two IR loaders, just that one. A bit of a bummer, honestly. But I also think one doesn't need to have thousands of IRs... you'd mostly use a dozen you find best, most often. No?

Seems to, but I have a handful of completely useable sounds in my HD1000 as well and/or various other SIMs.

If that... In real life people have typically a mic or two and a amp/cab or two - they learn how to mic them well and get lots of useable sounds out of them. YMMV of course but I've just never found so many choices resulting in actual better sounds and usually more time spent.

but which amp are you using? I know the sound is everything, but if I want to get a certain amp's sound, line6 is easier to get there. Pick the amp.

S-gear is like, ok its the jackal amp, with the one switch on, and then be sure to pick the right power amp tubes for that. hehe (or something)

Usually the Marshal (Steeler) or the Boogie (Cali?) I've become somewhat agnostic to amps over the last few years and am looking for what fits the song/mix regardless. It's entirely possible that I may just plug direct into a preamp/compressor hardware combo I own (no sim or cab) "if" that fits the mix, if that makes sense. If I were trying to be Kenny Wayne Shepard where the entire song is built around "my signature tone", things would be different, but I'm totally not interested in that - I guess over the years I morphed into a song guy without realizing it.

And I have a room full of amps with at least one mic'd in some form - Since I don't buy into recording at insane volumes, those get used as much.

That doesn't mean I won't try out Helix, I'm going to see if I can wait another two weeks before installing since I'll be laying all my tracks for 12 tunes then.

Bias didnt last too long on my hard drive. Underwhelmed.
I use S-Gear2 Kuassa Vermilion and Peaveys revalver4 for 90% of what I do.

No hi gain stuff, needless to say.
