Default Possible Video Codecs Bug - Xvid, H.264 doesnt show up and inaccurate resize of Mixer

I copied ffmpeg dll files in R 4 folder still it doesn't show up xvid or H.264 codecs. So it may be a bug or Reaper devs have kept it with purpose.

U can see video here. what is good codec for video so that we can lay audio ?

2nd thing Mixer panel inaccurately resize u can also see that in this Video.

You might have the wrong DLLs (32/64 bit).

The ones from http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/autobuilds are fine. Need to be placed directly in REAPER program folder (not a subfolder)!

They're "exe" files, while the instruction here: http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/Video_Support specifically ask for "dll"...

Not to mention that x64 aren't available at all.

Frankly, all this hunting for ffmpeg is a nightmare, I'm happy that straight DV work with stock decoder and I hope this stays in.

Of course you need DLLs.

64bit build is obviously unstable. Here you can find an older version: http://aegiscorp.free.fr/ffmpeg

The dev said no x64 release of ffmpeg until at least March/April.

At this point I'd settle for simply h264 support in 64bit. Dv25/50 are absolutely too big and nobody I know in film scoring work fires off dv25 to each others FTP servers. H264 all the way on that one.

I'm with you eepyikes, h.264 decoding should be native in Reaper. Considering the stock WMP that come with Win7 x64 has no problem with it, shouldn't be such a big thing to do.

Leave the ffmpeg crap to those who want to encode videos in reaper, but implement native h.264 decoding support.

I get H264 for all my editing work, or Sorensen. I always transcode to a GOP-less codec. Quicktime/Photojpeg at medium to high quality is my usual target. At 512x288 it takes four minutes to transcode a 20 minute show with Quicktime Pro.

Reaper still has ways to go on responsiveness on video, but it all works well if you don't use nasty codecs or encoding profilesthat slow you down when editing. For H264, picture reordering and high i-frame distances are poison for fast seeking.

The dll files are in the shared version of the build: http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/autobuild...gw32-shared.7z is the latest at this moment.

Because ffmpeg in the latest autobuild versions has run into snags with licensing for the AAC codec, earlier versions are useful. The aegiscorp link in the Wicki serves up a reasonably recent set of dlls including 64 bit versions. And in looking at this link: http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/autobuild...gw-w64/shared/ there are 64 bit versions that are slightly newer than the ones on aegiscorp.

Unfortunately those don't work, for whatever reason...at least not in my tests. I get video but the audio is glitchy and thus the vid is probably Ill-synced as well. --32 bit is ok though. Only x64 is busted.
