Default Some color palettes for Reaper V6

Hi Everybody,

I've past all this afternoon to make some custom color palettes for me and I was thinking that it could interest somebody so I share them for whom it interests.

I've just made a copy of the lua script Default_6.0_theme_adjuster.lua to Default_6.0_theme_adjuster_custom.lua and modified the colors and the titles of the palettes.

Here is the code that I have modified in the script line 29 :

Code:
palette = {}
--palette.idx = {'Rv6','Pride','Warm','Cool','Vice','Eeek'}
palette.idx = {'Rv6','Hard','Forest','Fall','Fire','Synthwave'}
palette.current = tonumber(reaper.GetExtState(sTitle,'paletteCurrent')) or 1
palette.Rv6 = {{205, 106, 106},{208, 139, 113},{208, 159, 113},{212, 197, 125},{153, 207, 110},{110, 207, 123},{113, 192, 208},{113, 170, 208},{117, 146, 209},{119, 117, 209}}
palette.Hard = {{240, 71, 43},{228, 154, 38},{241, 196, 15},{111, 184, 66},{68, 156, 199},{74, 119, 193},{129, 71, 212},{201, 83, 161},{176, 177, 161},{108, 120, 116}}
palette.Forest = {{57, 79, 60},{95, 122, 82},{107, 139, 90},{118, 155, 105},{156, 175, 136},{108, 157, 123},{94, 141, 120},{82, 122, 116},{69, 100, 104},{48, 78, 82}}
palette.Fall = {{110, 76, 73},{148, 114, 93},{191, 161, 122},{219, 191, 148},{209, 163, 117},{191, 121, 64},{168, 94, 56},{130, 68, 43},{120, 96, 114},{90, 68, 78}}
palette.Fire = {{134, 50, 46},{176, 70, 59},{200, 101, 91},{209, 134, 117},{214, 157, 133},{210, 208, 75},{208, 159, 67},{206, 130, 59},{204, 82, 51},{128, 67, 64}}
palette.Synthwave = {{36, 83, 107},{40, 96, 119},{48, 123, 148},{118, 98, 204},{153, 94, 200},{182, 71, 187},{180, 54, 131},{171, 50, 78},{177, 176, 191},{142, 136, 151}}
and line 1178 :

Code:
--undockPaletteNamesVals = {'REAPER v6', 'PRIDE','WARM','COOL','VICE','EEEK'}
undockPaletteNamesVals = {'Soft', 'Hard','Forest','Fall','Fire','Synthwave'}
You can see the result here:

These colors are to my taste, if you want to share your own palettes here it would be great, I will be curious to see your creations.

That's awesome, thanks!!!

I like it just for the fact you included one called Synthwave.. instant Nait brownie points :P

But seriously, I like the original ones, and like these added ones. I haven't tried it, but I would think you could even add to the existing palettes as opposed to replacing them, no? (although you may have replaced them because you didn't like any of them.. just wondering).

I've got some SWS Auto Colors I'm pretty content with that maybe I should add to a palette.

Thanks !

I like the old ones too (except for EEEK that I find too saturated for my taste).

I would just try to change the colors for the EEK palette and finaly I've made 6 palettes for fun, but it takes more time that I thought ;-)

I wanted not to change a lot of the original script, just the minimum for me to replace some colors, I know there is some way to add more palettes by modify the script but it will take much more time and I've not found the courage to do it :-)

Excellent! This looks like more fun than me doing real work, so yeah OK, go on then...

NOTES:
You left out your soft palette, so I made the extremely useful and attractive 'Red' palette.
I changed 'Fall' to 'Autumn' because ...pffft bloody foreigners

Thank you, White Tie.

Errh... Excuse me for being so thick, but :
- Where to put this LUA script ?
- How do you do to automatically have newly created tracks coloured following the theme (I mean : when i create a new track, it has no colour... is there any option somewhere to give a random (or from the palette) color to a new track)?

[edit]
Ok :
- Where to put this LUA script ?
LMGTFY : If you want to install them manually:

Put the lua files into (a subfolder of) the Scripts folder in the Reaper resource path (Options > Show Reaper resource path ...)
Load the lua files via the Action List into the [Main] Sections mentioned above.
Assign these actions to a key shortcut, a toolbar button, a menu, etc.

11 janv. 2017
How to import Lua script? - Cockos Incorporated Forums
https://forums.cockos.com › showthread

BUT
- Doing this doesn't replace the "regular" theme editor ("menu>options>theme> theme adjuster")
- Running the scripts gives me a couple error messages : "image left.png not foundimage button_left.png not foundimage help_on.png not foundimage page_titles.png not foundimage right.png not foundimage dock.png not foundimage color_apply_large.png not foundimage color_apply_all.png not foundimage color_dim_all.png not foundimage color_dim.png not foundimage helpHeader_l.png not foundimage helpHeader_r.png not found"

You have to put the script in the \Scripts\Cockos folder because it need the assets contained in the Default_6.0_theme_adjuster_images folder.

In spite of the recent complaints over the Reaper 6 theme, I have to say that you've done a great job of giving us even more customizability. The new Reaper 6 theme has really grown on me, but I'm also excited to make a theme of my own.

Hi,

You don't have to wait anymore, I finished it

I allowed myself to modify a little the script to add 2 features that I like, I hope this is not a mistake, I don't want to interfere with the work of the authors.

Feature 1 : Now with Ctrl + Click (I'm on PC) we can color the selected items.
Feature 2 : I added a button to reset the selected items to their default color.

I've also modified slightly my palettes for more contrast between the color.

I hope it will be helpfull for someone.

I've put the file in the attachment, you have to put the script in the \Scripts\Cockos\ folder. You can create an action to run it by loading the script and/or assign a shortcut.

Attached Files
File Type: lua Theme_adjuster_12_palettes_with_items.lua (73.5 KB, 220 views)

Hi there linkoboy. I don't know how to create a custom action to run the script. Could you give me some instructions? Or I guess I should have looked in the manual first. lol. Thanks to you and WT and everybody. Happy holidays.

Once you have copied it to the correct directory, open REAPER's Action List.

Click on ReaScript Load button.

Navigate to ...\Scripts\Cockos directory

Select the script, then Open

It will now be in your Action list. You can run it from there like any other action. If you intend to use it a lot, I would recommend adding it to one of your items on the Main Menu and/or toolbar, and/or assign shortcut keys.

You don't need a custom action.

Hi,

You must put the script in the \Scripts\Cockos folder because it need the assets contained in the Default_6.0_theme_adjuster_images folder. That's why you got these errors.

Thank you, Nicholas.
By the way, it seems Reaper users really needs more and more these scripts, custom action, cycle actions, extensions, as many features rely more heavily on this, and it is not very intuitive or easy to get at first glance. I have checked the official manual, but there is no chapter about cycle actions : do you think that some user manual about custom actions, custom toolbars, cycle actions, etc could happen at some point ?

Thank you sooo much for this! I want to get started using this more often I just wasn't very sure how to practically use it.

I found it nice to have it docked on top.

This not being vertically center bothers me a lot tho:

Same as this:

Thanks for asking ... I don't want to hijack this thread (apologies) but just to answer your questions ...

Happily, custom toolbars (p 291) and custom actions (p 280) are both covered in the current User Guide.

Cycle actions are an SWS extensions feature: I do agree that the SWS documentation is very seriously out of date, several important features like Cycle Actions have been introduced since it was written. I've been meaning to update it for ages, but honestly it's just a question of finding the time ...

Thank you for your reply, Nicholas (and sorry if somewhat hijacking the thread indeed).

In meant, in a general way, that i see quite often on the forum people (myself included) asking "how do we do this or that", "this" and "that" being "usefull things not ready to work out of the box"...
Reaper being more and more "customization friendly", and more and more features being released as scripts, actions, sws, lua... it can become very geeky (requiring quite a lot of tweakings and settings before working) before working as expected.

Sorry for gathering into a single request custom actions/toolbars and other things like cycle actions or contextual toolbars : yesterday, i somewhat struggled to create my first cycle action. I watched 2 videos, tried, and failed. Then, i opened the PDF manual, typed "cycle action" in the search field and it gave me nothing. Later, I found a Wikipedia page (i can't remember if it was about cycle actions or contextual toolbars), but it wasn't updated since 2014 (so, not very reliable, with obsolote screenshots, etc).

Anyway, in any case, this is not a rant (again : thank you for your work on the PDF manual, it is very useful !), but a suggestion (for anyone in the Cockos team willing to do it, or finding the time to do so). I think that a "proper" (and updated) manual to get started with all the Reaper customizations, scripts and extensions would allow much more users to understand better how to use it.

I am noticing that my theme adjuster settings keep resetting ever since I installed your theme adjuster

Edit: I solved by deleting the previous theme adjuster script and renaming yours like original!

Just sent you a PM
Give me a shout if you need some help

I edited the script (see attached) for users who would rather change the color palette of the selected tracks through the toolbar (or for those who are using a theme incompatible with the theme adjuster). Make as many copies of the script as you want, and change line 27 ("local curpal = ") to whatever values you want in each script. Then make buttons in the toolbar that run the scripts.

In action:

File Type: lua Color_Default.lua (1.5 KB, 112 views)

Is there any way to have Reaper behave like that : Once you have your theme chosen, each newly created track will automatically get the next color of the theme (so that you don't have to change the color manually) ?

You can do this with my script. Make a custom action that runs these actions:

Track: Insert new track
Track: Set to random colors
Script: Color_Default.lua (or whatever palette script you want)

If you use SWS track templates, just change "Track: Insert new track" to "SWS/S&M: Resources - Import tracks from track template, slot 1".

* If you have multiple different custom actions that you use the script in, it may be a good idea to embed that script in a custom action itself so that if you ever want to change the color palette, you only have to change one thing (and not everywhere you use it).

Thank you, nicholas. I haven't delved into scripts much, at all. I quite like customizing things in my day to day life. It makes me feel like I'm actually in control.

I just want to say thanks to this post for inspiring me to look in to how to change track colours.

I won't be using the Theme Adjuster, just toolbars.

So, yeah, thanks
