Default can some kind MBP user tell me what settings I ned to change to make Reaper usable?

I'm a new MBP user and TBH the default settings are making Reaper unusable with the Trackpad.

Cubase and Studio one work pretty much as expected however ... Reaper is a nightmare.

For a start the right click drag lasso selection is impossible.

Then theres the pinch zoom and 2 finger scrolling etc... all over the place?????

HELP....

What's an MBP?
Sounds like you need a mouse...

A new 14 inch M1 Max- 64GB RAM 2TB NVMe. Mac Book Pro.

As I said, all other DAW apps works great it's just Reaper that's a nightmare.

I'm sure there must be some special settings that will make it work nicely.

I really don't understand that it hadn't been addressed yet by Justin for he himself has got a MBP (M1). There have been plenty of users rightfully complaining about REAPER's usability and it should be something on top of the list of issues to fix. I mean, it affects core functionality on one of the most popular devices.
Anyhow, I am sorry I can't help you with that. I am using REAPER on a Mac Mini M2 and had to deactivate Metal in the advanced settings. That's the only way I got rid of the extreme lag in most GUI elements.
Just wanted to express my support to the importance of fixing this problem.

I've not found any GUI lag at all , it's running very nicely TBH from a performnce point of view it's the logistics of actually using the program when I'm using the trackpad.

Cubase and Studio one run as well or better on my MBP than on my powerful 7950x windows desktop, so the MBP is a very nice machine and I think the recent coding needed for Apple silicone has meant everything runs very efficiently indeed hence the performance.

From a peformance perspective though Reaper on windows 11 with the 7950x is still king, however I need to be able to transfer projects seamlessley to the MBP and the user experience is crippling.

The wole point fo the laptop was to be able to work mobile, otherwise I'd have bought a Mac Studio maybe.

well not being able to lasso select is the main one, I've seen a work around in prefs to use the control key but that then f*cks up the usual modfiers.

Secondly by default the pinch and 2 finger seem to do the same thing.

Thirdly when scrolling up and down through the TCP the arrange window is scrolling as well.

As I said all other DAWs work more or less as expected with the Apple trackpad. Reaper is all over the place.

All trackpad gestures can be configured in MBP settings.

If your experience is the same as mine you can get lasso to work by configuring R Click as click in bottom R of trackpad (rather than two finger tap eg) and whilst depressed use another finger to size the lasso.

For the other gestures you can experiment which one gives the required response in the REAPER gui.

As far as mobility is concerned I found that I get great results with a Bluetooth mouse. Especially the scroll wheel is relaxing and easy. The MBP “glass” trackpad is well built but might be delicate and if you jab hard and often at it (in a red mist of recording rage) and fracture it you’ll have a somewhat eye watering repair bill. I have used my Bluetooth mouse for many years now and mobility not an issue at all.

Also I forgot say the Utube video seems pretty helpful.

Good luck.
