Default PC freezes temporarily when recording at 96k

Im running Win 7 Ulti w/ 12 Gb Ram Intel i7
DM3200 interface with Focusrite Octo Pre Dynamic ... Octo Pre is the clock..

When I record or playback with a sample rate of 48k, I have no issues.

but

When I set up for 96k recording, my PC freezes up multiple times while recording (or playing) a single track.
The freeze is temporary but obviously kills any chance of getting any tracking done. didnt even try doing drums since it can't even do a single track. I set Focusrite for the clock that the DM3200 is slave.

I figured this is a solid computer build and shouldn't have issues but maybe I'm missing something..

I returned to 48k sample rate and back to no issues.... yet.

Any suggestions????

I will try making the DM3200 the master and slave the Focusrite.. If it works, Ill re-post

...and "human being with feelings...???" I must have been drunk !!! lol

When you change the sample rate, are you doing it in both the interface and Reaper?

Default Freezes

I've been experiencing the same problem, erratic freezes. I've come to the conclution that my CPU just does not have enough 'umph' to handle multiple tracks, plugins and effects. I've tried cutting my internet connection, shutting down my bluetooth connection, making sure that there are no programs running. Although each helped it did not completely solve the problem. My system .... win 7 home premium, intel i5-2450m, CPU @ 2.50, 16 GB RAM, 64 bit. I've used MANY control surfaces / Latest 12 channel USB interface.
I'm thinking of buying a (used) 3.10 GHz, Lenovo IdeaPad Z50 i7-4710U 1080P 8GB 1TB+8GB SSHD NVIDIA GT820M Laptop... Z50, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, WIN 8, Dedicated Graphics

Basically a 'gaming computer'

ANY advice from anyone?
