Default No toolbar on my VSTs

Hi everyone,

I am posting here because when I download VSTs on Reaper 4, they have no toolbar. For GTG for example, all I manage to get is something like this:
http://www.freemusiciansresource.com.../GTG-DPC-3.jpg

... When I'd like to get something like this: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/YQRjnbBdHKM/maxresdefault.jpg

in order to be able to add drum samples (and of course that is only for GTG, I would like to be able to use toolbar features for any other VST.

I have tried to solve it by clicking on the pin in the top right corner of the VST window but doesn't work. Didn't find anything in Preferences either.

Thank you in advance for your answers and apologies if this has already been covered, I have found nothing on the forum about it.

Matt

Well, Reaper isn't Cubase, so the window surrounding the plugin will be different...There should be one in Reaper, though...

In this screenshot I did, the area in the plugin window I outlined with red is the additional stuff you will at most see in Reaper, there isn't anything else :

If you are not seeing the stuff inside the red outline, then it would appear to be some kind of a bug in Reaper...

Thank you Xenastios for your answer. Yes I would like yo have this type of toolbar because this appears to be where I can select drum loops (I don't know any other way to integrate + edit drum loops).

Do you have any recommendation on how to fix this bug? I have already tried to reinstall Reaper.

I've never seen a VST plug-in in Reaper without a toolbar (but it is something I have requested).

What happens when you load any of the factory plug-ins - ReaSynth, ReaEQ, etc? Any toolbar there? And exactly how are you loading the plug-in onto a track?

Are you using Reaper 32-bit or Reaper 64-bit? What OS?

Hi DarkStar,

The factory plug-ins work well (see screenshot attached).

I have attached another screenshot illustrating the way I add the plug-ins.

And... I use Reaper 64 bits!

Have a good evening,
Matt

That looks OK, what does "Grizzly" look like?

Perhaps you could download a couple of Voxengo's free plug-ins, or MeldaProductions Free bundle and let's see what they look like.

Apologies for the late answer. I have followed your advice and Melda gets a toolbar because it seems to use the same layout as the factory VSTs (see attachment). Grizzly doesn't get one, just like GTG.

Would you know any good free drum VSTs that use the factory layout just like Melda's MrFreeBundle? From what I have seen there is no drum VST in this package.

Cheers
Matthieu

Ah ha - got it

Grizzly is a 32-bit plug-in. It is running in Reaper 64-bit, so it is "bridged" (running is a separate wrapper process. Move Grizzly or close its window and you will see the other details in the FX Chain window or another smaller "floating" window (depending on the Preference settings).

Here is an example the other way round: a 64-bit plug-in bridged into Reaper 32-bit:

Or, you can right-click the FX in the FX Browser >> "Run as" and select "Embed bridged ..." to get the fields and GUI together

Thank you DarkStar that was it! If I didn't live 12,000 km from you I would buy you a beer.

Now of course, it wouldn't be funny if I didn't have another issue following this one. I would be very grateful if you can help me on it as well, I decided not to start a new topic because it is linked to the previous issue.

I want to be able to use a pre-made loop but then modify it, therefore I downloaded MIDI drum loops. Attached is a screenshot of the MIDI drum loop, with GTG activated.

The problem is that there is no sound when I play the loop, however when I add drum hits on the MIDI board manually (for example the hit that appears in yellow on the screenshot), I get sound from them. It is as if the sound of the pre-made MIDI hits from the loop were not activated.

Any idea what that could be?

Thank a lot in advance

On what MIDI channel are those notes? Look in [View] >> Mode: Event List.

Select them all and right-click >> note channel to change them to 01.

As "All channels" is selected in the MIDI Editor, when you click on the piano keyboard (or insert a new note) it will be on MIDI channel 01. Change the Colour selector to "Channel". More details in the User Guide.

Or attach the MIDI file here.

Oh! look at what it says in the FX Chain title bar

Maybe DPC 3 only responds to notes on channel 01?

Brilliant mate... It works by right clicking on the notes, selecting note channels and putting channel 1

Thanks a million for helping me out with these two things!
