Maybe the new ReaEQ is the answer to all this - low in demand on the system, but you couldn't put the interface into the TCP in any way shape or form. So perhaps Justin is saying that no, there will be no integrated EQ, just a damn good disintegrated one you could have as default on the VST rack for all tracks.

Here it has 0.1% load when not bypassed but flat.

Groan - actually, I can think of a half-way house based on ReaEQ. As an option, have it permanently on every track (not in the rack). Shift/click on the FX button would bring up just ReaEQ for the track in its own little window, which esc would dismiss. If in use on a track, the FX button would change to a different colour, or something. No significant GUI change, no change at all if you didn't select "Provide EQ on all tracks" in prefs.

reaper 2.0 will likely have assignable faders/knobs on the track panels etc... which you could use for EQ, or other purposes..

Yes, I've experimented with this, and it's a layout that suits larger projects I guess.

For me one of the great plusses of Reaper is the way it uses Folders as effective submixes. This makes it easy to arrange tracks into submixes and collapse those not being currently worked on.

Maybe one day I'll return to 2 screen working as my norm, but right now I'm really happy to mostly use just the one for Reaper - it's set at 1920 by 1440 btw.

No, I'm not for that being integrated (you did specify that was to be integrated, right?), so I think it should be OPTIONAL that I shut up.

I always kinda missed the 75hz rolloff button on DAW mixers.

Someone here mentioned having a pair - Hi and Lo frequency rolloff.

Two buttons, and please just make sure they're not resonant at all.

Kind regards

Dave Rich.

the cool thing is, you will be able to make those knobs/sliders whatever you want

(if justin decides to do it this way, which is what he implied)

are you from the sonar forums?

As for two monitors, I'd rather save money for Reaper 2.0 With screensets you have 9 or more monitors ...

For the customizable mixer - Oh, just can't wait to see it !

I can imagine groups of channels ("islands") that can be shown/hidden by clicking a linked button, or you can move between them by pressing definable keys... And scalable channels like in Logic Environment... mmmm :-)

I don't think that will happen. In Cubase they're 0 cpu until you actually start to turn them on. At the very least maybe add a high-pass filter (80hz?) to every channel.

Right now I've just been saving a default FX chain with ReaGate, ReaEQ, and ReComp - all deactivated.

So I can use them if I want to, but they'll be deactivated and wont take up and CPU if I don't use them.

I would love assignable knobs! Maybe something that would make them even better is if you could have a slot in the FX window for a plugin that gets controlled by the knobs, like an EQ, and then you could choose a default plugin to put there when you make a new track. Then, the plugin would load with each track, but remain unchecked so it wouldn't use any CPU power. Then, have it so once you move one of the knobs it turns on the effect for you and applies the change, plus have a button in the mixer view that turns on/off that plugin.

Also, I would especially like a dedicated low-cut on each channel, since this is the one thing that I actually used the channel EQ in Cubase for. It would be nice if this were something like a single knob that also works as a button when you right click it, so if you just right clicked it would turn on at whatever default frequency you want, but then you could adjust it with left click.

Also, it should have a spoiler, a cupholder, and a horn that plays "La Cucaracha".

So what you're saying is, we could have like, knobs or faders, on the TCP/channels, and they could control plugin parameters?

Or better yet, there could be controls, say, on the area of the track control panel that could be connected to plugin values that you could choose yourself?

Or, you could have templates setup where each channel had knobs that defaulted to controlling defined values of a VST's interface?

Hey Justin,

please change only things that are useful, and a built in EQ is anything else than useful when I can get a full FX chain with two clicks.

I think version 1.828 has anything that a pro needs, and what is there is one hundred percent right. I have never seen something like this, and I have seen them all. I would be shocked if Reaper would get slower from version to version (like SX or Nuendo) for functions that I use once in a lifetime.

Exactly, Chip! I was just glancing through the posts in this thread, not really reading them at all or anything, and then it just came to me! It looks like you're interested in this too.. maybe you should start a thread for it. That way we can convince Justin to think about it!

Hey, like check this idea out:

We have, like, knobs, right? On the TCP and mixer channels, and (get this) - THEY CONTROL PLUGINS!

What do you think? Groovy?

I agree with this. BUT, it would be nice to have a user pannel section in the mixer:

User pannels would be channel strip wide/sized and foldable & configurable/ assignable spaces for controling any insert. The pannels should be savable and recallable or automaticall inserted when the effect is inserted. So, be it delay, compression or eq, on the effect gui I check the box that says use/create panal: then I add knobs and assigne themas I see fit. Perhaps faders too.

I like this idea as it does not limit us to per channel eq, but in conjucntio with track presets gives us much, much more flexibility. Furthermore, it allows us to not use it should we not want to.

a tale from the Logic-land.

In Logic there was a time, when there were special built-in eq's on every channel. But as time passed, they started to evolve into plugins that you can easily move between tracks etc. So this is a vote against built-in eq.

(...)

On the other hand, why not allow buttons that will be only a SHORTCUT to quickly LOAD eq or a compressor on a given track ?

Plus customizable eq graphs that can be shown in the mixer as the alternative display for any used VST plugin.

And one more idea: using a selected track as the DEFAULT new track template (for all Reaper projects or just for this one).
Do once, profit for life.

"Feature Requests"

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
