Take a look at Ignite Amps Emmisary. Super brutal. Pair it with some IRs (I use Ownhammer Mesa 4x12 impulses) you've got crushing tone.

Steven Slate Drums 5 has a free version that just came out.

Plugin Boutique is selling cheap (not free) AIR instruments. Xpand2 is incredible and is 5 bucks right now. Hybrid 3 and Vaccuum Pro are both $1.

I made this video about a bass VST for metal. Since then there have been a billion bass VSTis to come out, some for free. I haven't kept up since I bought an actual bass.

I like LoudMax for limiter/loudness.
