Default Popup says "Reaper64 wants to make changes"

I get this message every time I open the portable install for OSX:
"Reaper64 wants to make changes"
I click cancel and Reaper runs fine without the changes.
Is there a way to get rid of it or tell 'no' automtically?

This looks like an OSX permission or security settings 'issue'. You might find some useful hints here:

I think, it wants to install a re-wire plugin.
Try disabling Re-Wire and see if you still get this.

One of the stock "gate keeper" features in OSX is to ask for your system password if you modify the Applications folder, your home folder Library folder, and a few others. Hence needing the password to install any apps.

Reaper puts its "resource folder" in the user account Library folder by default. This lets you preserve settings/customizations when you update Reaper.app itself.

I haven't checked to see if Reaper defaults to a portable install (putting the resource folder in the Applications folder with Reaper.app in this case). But you basically cancelled an operation you yourself initiated.

You can in fact turn that off in OSX System Preferences. The idea is that it's a safety net for accidentally clicking on some download link that might lead to an installer autorunning that you never intended. Typing your password isn't much to ask for such a safety net but that's up to you.

This is to install the rewire device... if you want to prevent it from happening without installing it, you can disable rewire slave support in the prefs.

Thanks, Vasily and Justin.
I turned off Rewire in preferences, but I still get the pop-up.
any other suggestions?

solger:
Thanks for the links, but they appear to be about gettig it to say yes by automatically giving permission.
I want it to automatically say 'no' or cancel.

I'm running Reaper from a thumbdrive on a Mac at work.
I don't want to install anything or make any changes to the Mac.

You can remove the files:

REAPER[64].app/Contents/Plugins/ReWire.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ReWire
and
REAPER[64].app/Contents/Plugins/REAPERReWireDev.bundle/Contents/MacOS/REAPERReWireDev

This will prevent REAPER from trying to install links to them. Or you can hit cancel every time.

Deleting the files did the trick. Thanks!

This simply isn't true. I've only seen this pop-up requesting my password on a handful of apps out of the hundreds I've installed. A couple years ago I saw this box pop up and figured it was for some necessary feature to an app I had installed but it wasn't. The app I had downloaded had been replaced by a hacker with a functional app that also installed a malware onto my system, and the pop-up was the only clue that it was doing this. I had a suspicious feeling and a google search led me to the information that this app had been hacked. I had to re-install my system from scratch to be sure that all traces of the malware were removed.

I suggest to the Reaper devs that they should state why the program is about to ask for privilege elevation.

Except that it is.

The OSX gatekeeper protection on those directories is on by default. Sounds like somebody turned it off and perhaps downloaded and installed Mackeeper. :P

Removing the files means that, with each update, you'll have to redo that every time…

For me the solution has been to copy (and replace if exists)

REAPER[64].app/Contents/Plugins/ReWire.bundle

to

/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/ReWire.bundle

no more "Reaper64 wants to make changes"
