Default Reaper doesn't start up any more. Help!!

I was working on a project and suddenly Reaper crashed
After rebooting it stays on loading JS... for a long time (5min+)
But when it finally starts I cannot load any project.

I already tried installing a portable install on a different folder, but the same thing happens with this version.

Any ideas what this could cause?
I'm working on a project that has the deadline today and have a session planned for tomorrow morning, so any help is very much appreciated!

The only thing I've ever had shut down a Mac in that fashion is a hard drive failure. Not the system volume (which would be obvious) but another connected volume. Try disconnecting any other drives (especially externals) and see what happens.

What happens (if this is the scenario) is the drive in question not responding and the system hanging with an unexpected hardware lag.

Thanks! I tried opening the project in with fx offline and found that virtual mix rack from slate was causing trouble. After uninstalling it completely it reaper still didn't run smoothly, so I decided to restore a full backup.
