Default How do I compress bass with kick?

Hello, I am new to producing and have been working on some EDM. Lately I have been using Nicky Romero's sidechain compression plugin for quarter note kicks with house music but right now I am working on more of a future bass feel and the kick is more groovy meaning that it is not just hitting on the downbeats in my beat. When the kick hits during the sub line it makes it sound a little weird. How can I create a compression on my bass right when the kick hits?

There are lots of tutorials on side chaining in Reaper.

Here's one:

Alternative approach to side chaining, volume automation.
More work but (maybe) also more control.
