Default Get current peak level

Hello. How to get REAPER to show you current peak level of the selected audio item (or take)?

Hit play? If the meters are only showing old peaks, use the action "clear all peak indicators." There are options for the meters in preferences. I think there are some scripts that will give you a bunch of info like that for the whole project without playing it, but I don't recall the names.

I've found a workaround:
normalize, look up the level rise, then Undo.

And I've elaborated the original question in a new thread:

Looks like the OP actually wanted the highest peak in the item, and came up with the same solution I offered in the other thread.

It might be kind of cool if we could get the meter to show the actual current sample value while stopped. You can get a rough idea looking at the waveform, but a real number is actually pretty hard to get. It might seem like a nerdy thing, but I can see where it might come in handy once in a while.
