Default I want to learn more about Mixing Termiology

Hey, All!

I learn best by watching videos. As we all know, there are LOTS of videos on YouTube about how to use Reaper and I have got a lot out of them. However, in a BIG way I feel like I am missing out on so much because I do not yet have a good grasp of the language of mixing, terminology and what they all mean.

I would be grateful if any of you could offer me a suggestions of some videos that you might know of that goes in-depth and explains the terminology of mixing so that I can begin to understand more what people in the other videos I am watch on how to do stuff actually mean by what they are saying.

Thanks,

Steven S.

Good idea to get the language down.

One book that really helped me is Art of Mixing by Gibson:

http://www.globerecording.com/books/aom.html

That website also has lots of cool videos.

Behind the words are concepts and the concept of placing instruments/sounds in a 3D space (and then 4D if you add time to create a dynamic story)is key for mixing. But, then, the mix also must sound good in mono, which is a real challenge.

I close my eyes to help visualize sound in space.
