No inputs available in dropdown menu

first post here so sorry if this is in the wrong section. did some searching first but couldn't find what I need help with.

Just picked up my Samsung Notebook 5 NP530E5M and I'm working on getting my Steinberg UR44 setup for recording some guitar tracks with Reaper on Windows 10. Upon opening reaper I'm asked to select an audio device which I select ASIO for audio system and Yamaha Steinberg ASIO for ASIO Driver and move onto to checking the box for 'Enable Inputs'. From here I believe I should be able to select my inputs in the dropdown menu. however the menu is blank, there are no inputs to choose from and this is where I'm stuck.

ive downloaded TOOLS for UR44 V2.1.2 for Windows and also tried the
Firmware UR44 2.1.1 · 32/64-Bit update but still no luck.

any help or redirection to an existing thread on this would be much appreciated

Some things to check in general:

- I'm assuming Windows 10 is 64-bit: did you install the Tools for UR 44 64-bit version? https://www.steinberg.net/en/support...oads_ur44.html
- Have you already tried to install the latest ASIO driver from here? https://www.steinberg.net/en/support...sb_driver.html

- Is using the UR44 as default playback device in Windows working?
- Can you select the UR44 as input/output when using WASAPI as audio system in Reaper (instead of ASIO)?

I did install the tools for ur44 64 bit. I also tried the latest asio driver. it seems my computer is communicating with the device as I can select the Steinberg Ur44 as a default playback device, although it says "failed to play test tone" when testing it.
I cannot select the device when using WASAPI.
