Default How to avoid MIDI track shifts due to change in tempo and/or time signature

For some reason, when being creative and trying out new songs, I like to use my keyboard and microphone without any beat in my headphones. I.e., I like to strech the time when needed, and not being "pushed" of a steady beat sound. However, when a new song has been born this way, I would like to keep the midi track, but converge it to measured bars so that the midi track can be aligned to a set tempo and time signature.

I have followed guides found in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-uEL5mu6ek and
http://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/tempo-mapping, and have created actions in Reaper that makes this part of the process easy. I also do F2 on the MIDI track and select Time base. Still, when I start to add the correct bars, the MIDI track shifts in Time, and MIDI track and song track are no longer aligned. I have read other posting on this problem, and it seems that Reaper is not on par with other DAWs in this department. So my questions are: (1) does there still exist a workaround for this problem, and (2) is such functionality planned to be part of future Reaper 6 releases?

best regards Arne
