Default "License Key Window" Keeps Popping Up

Just curious...I purchased the personal ($60) version of Reaper a couple years ago but I still get a window that pops up when I start Reaper asking for a license key. It doesn't cause any problems and I've pretty much ignored it but I thought maybe I'd better ask about it. Reaper and the forum have been so good to me and I know it runs partially on donations and I want to do my part. But I was just wondering, is the $60 fee a one time thing or is it $60 per year? Thank you.

It is good for 2 full versions. So if you bought at version 4.xx you are good to go up to 6.

Did you ever import it into Reaper? Just buying it doesn't magically authorize it.

And Reaper doesn't run on donations, we buy the software like any other software.

I paid the $60 and downloaded it. So, I still need to import the license? It's no big deal to me, I just want to do everything correctly.

The license key for Reaper is a long text file. It begins at the top left with the words (it includes the colon too.)...

:REAPER LICENSE

followed by several lines of code then

:END

Put that entire key, from the : to the D at the end of the word "END" into a .txt file, and save it as REAPER LICENSE.txt

It's odd, but the instruction manual does not say where to save the license. I saved it in the same folder as the one in which I saved Reaper and its manual. As I recall, Reaper searched for and found the license. It did so with both Windows and Mac.

Just select the text described above from the mail you got and copy it. When you get to the license window Reaper will figure out you have a license key copied in the text clipboard buffer and ask if you want to use it. IIRC.

Or from that pop-up in Reaper, navigate to where it is downloaded by clicking on the import button, The license is an "rk" file, no need to re-save it as txt if you use the method I just described. Then save that rk file somewhere for future needs (I have mine on Dropbox so I can access it anywhere)

Cause for celebration! It's totally normal for seemingly "simple" things to elude us sometimes...... We ARE artists, after all....

Afaik, just drag and drop the "rk" file into open reaper works as well...at least I did that with an additional portable installed Reaper I have on a second HD.

What a good idea - so long as dropbox doesnt randomly drop your space entitlement like google, copy and Microsoft have!

Up until that all started happening, I was getting used to the idea of cloud storgae actually being fairly secure!
Nowadays ALL my storage backups etc are on disk drives that I control.

It's secure if you pay the measly two dollars every month.
