Default Reaper 3 license upgrade server

Hi.

Reaper licenses are good for 2 full versions numbers worth of upgrades.

- If you bought a license during version 1.x, your license is good through 2.99.

- If you bought a license during version 2.x, your license is good through 3.99.

- If you buy a license during version 3.x, your license will be good through 4.99.

Reaper 3 uses a different licensing procedure than previous versions. Instead of typing or pasting in a license key, you will load a license file.

We have set up a license upgrade server where you enter your existing license key, and get a 3.x license file.

If you enter a 2.x license key, you will get back your permanent 3.x license, which is good through 3.99 (the original term of your license).

If you enter a 1.x license, you will get back a temporary 3.x license, which will expire in a couple of months. This is to let you make an informed decision about whether you want to buy a 3.x license and not be pestered by the nag screen in the meantime. If your temporary license expires, Reaper will revert to evaluation mode (just as if you had downloaded it and never entered a license).

License upgrade server: http://www.reaper.fm/v3key/form.php

--------

Q: I can't remember if I bought a 1.x or 2.x license.

A: 1.x licenses are 8 groups of 4 characters, 2.x licenses are 8 groups of 6 characters.

Q: I entered a valid license key but the license server didn't work right.

A: Please try again just to make sure you entered all the numbers and letters right.

Q: I tried again and it still didn't work.
Q: I don't know what kind of license I have.
Q: I entered my valid key and the upgrade server said it wasn't valid.
Q: I can't find my license key number.

A: For any of these problems, please email licensing@cockos.com with whatever information you have regarding your license, ideally the original email containing the license key, failing that the registered name, email used for the purchase, approximate purchase date, etc.

If you have a 1.x or 2.x license installed, Reaper 3 will give you a direct link to the license upgrade server on the help/about/purchase window.

Default License downgrade

Hi Schwa,

I have a Commercial License for Reaper 1.0, and I now have a v3.0 key for a Commercial License that expires on August 2.

When licenses for v3.0 are available for purchase I will be downgrading to a Non-Commercial license.

Will I be able to use the same Registration Name to downgrade my license, or will I need to use a different name to change license types?

Cheers,

Malcolm.

The system failed, even though I pasted the information in.
I have sent the registration details via e-mail.

I must have purchased Reaper during version 1 and I have now downloaded my new temporary Reaper 3 license. Can I purchase an official version 3 license yet (which will be good for v3 and v4) as I already know I want one? If I go to the purchase page it still says purchase is for version 2.

Am I best just to wait until Version 3 is officially released?

I like the new dialog. I don't know how many times I have to insist to people that Reaper is NOT free.

I hate keyfiles though. I prefer codes I can copy/paste/print/email myself/store on my cell phone if necessary. Oh well.

If you have the license key number, a 1.x license will be 8 groups of 4 characters each, a 2.x license will be 8 groups of 6 characters each.

some@fake.com?

Why bother with an e-mail field in the key if it's not accurate?

It is already for some keys, and will be for more soon.

Probably best to wait, although if that changes we will let everybody know (it's a bit of work to get everything updated .

Worked fine for me. Just a quick Q, if I upgrade to a commercial license will that be valid from 3-4 if my existing non commercial license was valid from 2-3 ?

We'll let people upgrade from non-commercial 1.x/2.x to commercial 3.x for the difference in price (meaning the total paid would be the 3.x commercial price).

justin, schwa and other cockos guys;

a big "thank you" for this cool update! reaper has revolutionized my perception and use of digital audio / the way i work and is significantly contributing to a huge boost in creative output! :-)

if everything goes well (no unforeseen obstacles), will there be reaper V4 and 5 etc. one day, or in other terms: reaper really is a longterm project of you guys? (not that i fall too much in love with a transient all-too-fleeting seductress.. i'm not sure i could stand the sentimental story of parting company with this cool companion in daw world ;-)

thanks and all the best

I was a bit confused about what to do with the file, until I updated to v3beta6.

wow that was easy!
Question:
Does it matter where we store the key file?
Or can it be deleted after importing it into 3 beta?

Once imported, it's not needed, but I'd hang on to it burned to CD or thumb drive or something in case you have to reformat your machine and reinstall REAPER.

Well up until this update my license # was listed in the Reaper HELP pull down.

Now it just says I've used Reaper for 634 days. ( its been fun; Reaper has gone a long way )

At any rate while looking through my old paper copies for my license # and date I found who Swreg is. ( I thought it was Spam but I its where I bought my license for Rocket )

Where would I find my Reaper license # since its not shown any longer? ( Dont mind paying for an upgrade but .. annoyed I can find my #)

It should be in the email from Cockos that you received when you bought the licence.

or, reinstall that old version of Reaper temporarily and look in the HELP pull down (I don't know which version that was, but v2.58 does not do it here).

Default that dumb English guy again

Well I did what you said and got a file named Reaper_licence_key.rk

what am I supposed to do with it? I have yet to try a cut `n paste into Reaper reg itself, so I will give that a go and see what happens.

How jolly cool! I opened reaper and... it had licenced itself, presumably after detecting the downloaded file.

hah hah hah, classic, that first time gave me quite a start! thought "dammit, my key is valid through V3 - isn't it?" then found this thread. Worked first time no problem

Thanks guys, brilliant work, methinks that by the time this release is official I will have some time to actually use V3

Technically speaking, to make that example 2 full versions of upgrades, you would either need to make it 0.99-2.99, or 1.0-3.0

And since 0.99 wasn't offered for sale, no one could purchase before 1.0, so to stand by the 2 full versions numbers worth of upgrades, you'll need to release 3.0 freely to all current paying customers.

Additionally, if someone were to have bought at v1.888, according to your current scheme, they would get shafted, having to pay again after little more than 1 full version number of updates.

OK, done busting your balls
