ok guys I'm uploading all the submissions I've received until now. I might have screwed up something while exporting the mp3s, so if you notice some tracks slightly clipping you know why, but it's nothing to worry about.

Hey Dave,
Did you receive my submission? I sent it on Dec 7th, but I've had a quick skim through all those posted and it doesn't seem to be there. Did I screw up the transmission somehow?

Hi Dave, I don't know if it will affect the outcome or not, but there is actually quite a disparity between the levels of the mp3s.
I did go through and changed the levels to match which helped quite a bit. But everyone needs to be aware of this because it makes a big difference in what you hear.

MISSED IT
I'm going to have to get on this train - if there is another train - in 2017. I'm sorry I missed this, guys. I think that this is very fun and a wonderful training exercise.

Emailing my last place entry headphone mix entry now.
I know my ISP won't handle files that large (16/44 mix) so apparently GMail will put a Google drive link to the zip in the email.

What is the status of the submissions? If they are all at different levels and some are clipping due to mp3 conversion, that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
Edit: Nevermind. I listened to all the submissions and heard no clipping or significant volume differences.
I took one pass through everything, making notes as I went. If a mix stood out I marked it as a favorite. I then did a little round robin tournament, where I listened to each favorite heads up against every other favorite. That got me to my top 3. I'm not sure if the order on the survey matters, but I answered as if it did just in case.
What a great job you've done hear, Dave. Thanks for doing all of this.

I know the peaks vary of a few dBs from tracks to tracks but, loudness wise, there is no big level change.
Can you send me the session you've modified Tod please? I'll try to fix the clippings even if it's not noticeable in my opinion.

Thanks to you man without people who take their time, listen to the submissions and vote their favourite mixes, the contests I'm running wouldn't exist.

Huum, there is a big difference in the sound when the levels are not adjusted evenly. At least it makes a big difference on my system.
Here's my RPP with the settings. Everybody should either make their own adjustments or feel free to us mine. I based it on the intro which is one of the main hot points in the tune. Of course you'll have to direct your browser to where the mp3s are.

EDIT: I don't have Lawrence's yet so you'll have to add that one yourself.

Humm, you can see by the picture how they are on my computer and those adjustments I made compensated for it.
Why would it be different? I used the project file you sent, I'll try loading them in a fresh project later today. I've been kind of waiting for everybody to get there submissions in.

I don't know guys, I loaded a new project and they still show exactly like the picture. I also tried the default theme and it was exactly the same.
Am I really the only one that sees a difference?

It doesn't really matter what they look like. It matters what they sound like, and I can't hear any significant overall volume mismatches from track to track.

Just got back home (God bless the M25) and resent my original mail.
Grateful if you'd let me know if you've got it - posting this in case you haven't (if that makes sense!)
Many thanks,

I wouldn't worry about it in this context unless the apparent differences between tracks are just wildly different.
I mean, we're all kinda audio people so tweaking levels of something playing back a little bit here and there to compare is not exactly difficult. It's more of a subjective comparison anyway, not so much a clinical A/B. Anyone wanting to compare them all can (if they feel the need) download and load them up in the daw and kinda level match them to compare.

Well, if you guys can't hear the difference I guess it don't matter.
I've got a good control room and the difference is quite significant.
Oh well.

I actully haven't even listened yet, sorry Todd, didn't mean to imply otherwise.
If the differences are really big, yeah, it might be... mildly annoying ... to try to compare 10-12 mixes if the levels are wildly different.
Mine isn't loud. Actually, even though I limited it some I didn't really pay much attention to the level requirements. Sorry. Maybe mine should be excluded because of that.

Thanks Lawrence, to say they're wildly different would be exaggerating, but to me, there's definitely enough difference to cloud my judgement. Adjusting the levels to match made a big difference in my subjectivity.
Heh heh, maybe it made it harder, cus now I'm finding it hard to pick the winners, they all sound pretty good.

Oh no, that's good, I've been raising all the ones that are low and right now I've got a good balance.
EDIT: Incidentally, have all the submissions been listed, there's still only 11, is that all of them?

Yeah, there were some peaking out
But to be fair, I just played them each at around -3dB and that seemed to make them all listen able without being distracted by the red. This time around, I could truthfully not pick my mix out as easily as I did last time. Excited to see the results, but honestly more excited to see next months tracks!

Well, mine seems to have got lost in the mail - first sent on Dec 7th and resent yesterday but it doesn't seem to be working for some reason.
It'll seem a bit odd for it to be included at this late stage so I guess I'll wait for next month's and have another go.

I'll be quite surprised if mine rates anywhere near the top voting wise. I never even took it to the studio to check my verbs or the bass content.
I do think if you look at my project, the way some of the FX sends are staged with intermediate busses, that might be something you won't often see, the pre-filtering of FX sends, which is a regular habit of mine. I kinda ripped the verb impulses from my other DAW's convo verb since I didn't really have any others stand alone.

Fab. Thanks Dave - really appreciate you taking all the time to do this, especially at this time of year....I don't seem to have time to breathe!

SO....
Since I had already downloaded the first batch, listened, and voted already, is it OK to go back and vote again should the ID #s I originally chose are now different? I know there's no major cash prize here, but I just wanted to be fair to everyone.
