Default Is there such a thing as an item marker in R5?

Is there a way to insert markers within an item, which stays with it when moving around? It's useful for tagging video clips with descriptions at various points.

Not natively.

I wrote an EEL script for it, beta 17 works quite well: Item Marker tool beta 17

Thread here.

Warning, this is an older EEL script that needs updating, it doesn't handle v5 stretch markers, it will lose its marker position lock if you adjust them.

Thanks! Does it work even if I shift the content within the item? Does it move along with the content?

I'm using r5 for video editing because there are so many footage clips that to audition between them I comp them and slice them as I would with audio. Sony Vegas doesn't seem to have this fcunstionslity and I don't know what the other vid editors do to select the best parts of a video clip. This functionality would be mighty handy if I can tag clips with events for easier comping.

final cut has them. at least, the older final cut. extremely useful. reaper has other markers in items (stretch). really needs to have user markers.

while i appreciate p9's script, i have plenty of timeline markers already. having markers that i associate with an item in the same field as the timeline markers just creates clutter. if i didn't have any other markers it might be different but that's not a reasonable scenario to assume across the spectrum of users.

yeah. more traacks with more items and more stuff at the top. clutter. i just want a couple of markers in my existing items. that way i could just drag to line the item marker up with the existing timeline markers. no need for anything additional in the way of tracks and timeline markers. already run a couple of hundred tracks in my template. more for markers would be crazy for me. and, for post, things like sound effects, you really want to put it in the item itself, not the timeline.

Yes, it takes its reference from the source audio position. Prior to the v5 stretch markers, it dealt with any stretching or warping of source audio as well as vanilla displacement, item splitting, etc.

Default Can't get this to work

Despite the tooltips, I couldn't quite understand how this thing works (the difference between 'type' and 'lock'; and it's different combinations of L-click, Alt-Click, etc...).

So I just decided to go at it fairly randomly, trying almost everything but I can never get a marker to move with an item.

If it's any clue, when I did try the most basic (select item, create marker, left-click in 'type' or 'lock' box), it does create the orange marker and mess of characters, but the message that I can read below in green is 'Unlocked'. I imagine that's not right?
Alt-Clicking either 'type' or 'lock' doesn't do anything.
Any help?
