REAPER User Group - UK
Hi - this is a thread, kindly made sticky, for REAPER folk in the UK to discuss whatever comes to mind. This will usually, I suspect (and encourage) include the communal consumption of beer.

Ok, check in guys/gals
Ok, we have a sticky thread - which can't be bad.
Check in please, the UK people and let us know what you do etc.
I'm Mike from N/W Leicester. At the moment I'm a project manager for an IT company - though not for much longer - and spend my spare time happily recording and producing my band's music.
I've got a very minimalist set-up and I'm still delighted by what can be achieved with very little gear and other people's talents. I use a Behringer FCA202 interface, Peavey bass, Westbury guitar (which, ahem, I borrowed from a friend 20 years ago and still haven't given back) and I use a Tascam 488 as a desk which is noisy enough to make me thank goodness for ReaFir subtraction mode each time I turn it on.
At the moment I'm bashing my way through an album's worth of material creating a rehearsal CD - some of which is on REAPER radio. From my stuff on REAPER FM you'd probably think I am a guitarist - but actually that has a lot to do with Cut & Paste recording Ltd and I'm thinking of bribing stratman to move a bit further north...
Oh - and thanks to our 8 yr old I just love the Grimm Adventures of Billy & Mandy
Mike

Well, I'm Ed from Nottingham. I'm studying music tech at Confetti Studios, it's a really nice place; friendly people and awesome gear.
My home set up is a Behringer xenyx 1622 with the UCA200 (we all make mistakes )
I try and record any one, any where.
I will have a pint of Budweiser please oh and it's my 18th tomorrow .

Hi,
I'm Darren, i'm from Cambridgeshire.
i've played the drums for the last 19years and also dabbled with keyboards, this year im going to focus on learning keys properly because Reaper is so great to use but limited to my musical ability when not in a band.
I've got acoustic drums, simmons electric drums (i'm looking to sell the Simmons stuff and get a Roland kit) and loads of percussions stuff.
I've just got an EMU Xboard 61 with Preteus X and 3gb's of samples and a Roland D110.
I'm using Reaper 'in the box' at the moment but would like to get something like the Alesis IO26.
No projects at the moment, I left a band last July to concentrate on finishing my Accountancy exams - hence the shift to keyboards, but I'm interested in colaborating with anyone that wants a drummer or keyboard player or singer (I sing as well) for one of things

Float, float on
Cancer and my name is Larry, huh
And I like a woman that loves everything and everybody
And you know what ladies, . . .
Huh?
No .. er sorry .. er .. I'm Spike, bassplayer, used to be in bands and made a couple of records in another lifetime.
Didn't play for ages then picked it back up again, mainly because of the home computer/hard drive recording revolution.
Still don't find nearly enough time for it what with working and having two children but picked a cheap mandolin recently and have been playing with that. Currently do stuff for my own frustration in Reaper with my Alesis IO26 and EZDrummer and also play mandolin in a funny little folk trio at a funny little folk club in Forest Gate (East London).
Darren, I find the IO26 to be terrific but the input gain is not as high as on other units - doesn't bother me but there you are. You'll no doubt have had a scout around the other options.
Oh, and I'm not sure if this means I can't be in the gang or not but I don't live in Leicester.
Lastly please see sig for skill level

I’m Pete and live in Woking, Surrey.
I originate from Stoke on Trent, so do I qualify to be in the Midlands gang?
I’ve been playing the guitar and gigging for about 38 years. Gone a bit deaf in my right ear (bloody drummers) so let me know if my mixes come out with a right bias. Following on from Spike I should probably describe myself as ‘Deaf-Eared Guitarist’.
I currently play in a number of covers bands and gig fairly regularly, but they’re all private functions and weddings etc.
I'm an engineer for my day job and specialise in antenna design.
Although I've got a technical background, I'm very new to home recording on my computer and 95% of Reaper’s features are currently beyond me. I have no idea what some of the technical discussions are about on the forum. Still I seem to be able to muddle through.
Pete

Hello
Hi, I'm a brummie (sighs of boredom) I now live in Luton.
I jumped on the digital "bandwagon" in 1997/8 with ejay. I've graduated up to reaper via cubase SL, cubasis,Massiva, data becker (still the most efficient audio recording app(until reaper)I also use Making Waves to sketch MIDI ideas out.
I play guitar, acoustic, electric and bass and am learning the mandolin (love it!) I play a little keyboard and thank the LOrd for MIDI editing.
I use ez drummer but it crashes reaper on my set up - soI use it inside eXT - long-winded but works.
I'm getting older so I've cut my working hours down to have abit of quality of life. I gig occasionally, I play in our church band - now me, a pianist and a sax player.
My wife comes from Cosby (Leics). Her folks still live there.
Regards, Roger

Howdy Roger. I tried to reply to you on the RUG UK MSN board but I could not get on with that thing at all and couldn't work out how to do it.
Anyway, good to see you here. Al's had a Speckled Hen and young Blue's had a Bud. Kipper Tie for you?

Hi,
Name is Dan from Bury St Edmunds.
Been playing primarily the guitar for about 16 years. also play the bass and drums and keyboards. Only recently decided to start recording stuff.
Have played in various bands over the years in my home country (Malaysia) mainly playing covers (Rock mainly). made an EP with one band and am kindda collaborating with a friend in Australia (he send sme vox and guitars and I add to it which is fun)
Am still trying out Reaper (for 2 days now) and I must say Im loving it. I have tried Cubase sx3 and Sonar 7 but i must say i am impressed with Reaper (although Sonar 7 looks better, but looks aint everything eh?)
Well, hope to learn from this forum. Any collaborations welcomed!
D

hey, i'm hourglass (richard to my friends ) and i live in basingstoke and work in reading.
as i mentioned in the introductions thread, i'm a recovering cubase user who writes music at two opposite ends of the spectrum - metal and acoustic electronica.
i'm also part of a mainly-reading-based-but-really-national-and-international-collective (we've got a sister project in germany, and we're only "reading based" because two of the three founding members live there) of independent (unsigned) electronic musos, called doubledotdash!? ( www.doubledotdash.org, free songs etc.) one of the other members, amether, actually converted me to REAPER and i think he posts around here too.

I'm Nev and I worked in the DSS computer centre in Reading before throwing in my job one drunken night to play jazz guitar instead. I got tired of ICL mainframes running under George 3, then discovered Charlie Parker and made two albums, plus loads of tv music, then became an alcoholic, in true jazz style. Wish me luck on Monday, I have an interview to try to get in rehab for the nth time. Cheers all. Oh, and now I live in Plymouth, where they all say 'Ooh arr, moiy dear, where be that to then? moiy luvver?' Hey, stratman, your showband is very cool. I've got a 30 year old strat, and a Gibson Les Paul Custom, which both need expensive refrets, so I just bought a Squire strat, which is surprisingly good. Very cool looking too, natural alder finish, nice sound.

Glasgow
Hi there,
I'm from just outside Glasgow, mainly into acoustic traditional music but have played in all kinds of bands.
I have a small studio setup which I've put together over the last few years. I have a PC DAW; running Cubase SX3, Reaper,
Korg D3200 and a small Yamaha MD4S recorder.
Main Instruments are; Acoustic Guitar, Keyboards, Trad Flute, Whistle, Mandolin and Sax.
Hope to join in discussions with you guys!
Cheers

My oldest Strat is an early JV series Squier. It's a great guitar and stands up against my other two American Strats.
Good luck on Monday.

I'm Paul and I live in Leicester but originate from Berkshire. I use Reaper, Shortcircuit, Audiomulch and Ambiloop as well as my trusty Nord G1 modular, Alesis Wedge and a collection of guitars to make a variety of music in the studio and at gigs. I started using an Emu ESI 32 and Cubase 3 before moving on to Logic 5 and then finally ended up using Reaper, which I am growing to appreciate more every day.

Allo folks.
I'm Dave, of Sunderland stock, brought up in sunny Margate, now living in London's smoggy Tufnell Park. Used to play the pub circuit in Thanet in the early 90s, moved to London in the late 90s with a view to making a proper go of it and...
...gave up and got a proper job.
Can't stop playing though, mainly guitar, but other bits and pieces when necessary. Most importantly, I'm a CAMRA member with Snecklifters in the fridge.

Howdy Dave,
Can't see the word Thanet without thinking . . .
I'd rendez-vous with Janet
Quite near the Isle of Thanet
She looked more like a gannet
She wasn't half a prannet
Her mother tried to ban it
Her father helped me plan it
And when I captured Janet
She bruised her pomegranate

I had headphones on and was tweaking a bass guitar patch in FreeAmp3 at the time, so the rumble was quite perplexing. It was a good sound but I didn't expect it to make the floor rumble like that.
