"you need to force reaper to utilize GPU graphic acceleration"
Hi
All the plugins from one manufacturer 'Flux' are opening with a blank UI *after* initial instance is closed. That means the UI first up is normal, then each time after that the plugin window is opened it is blank. A demonstration is here below:
I contacted Flux support and they said "you need to force reaper to utilize GPU graphic acceleration".
Is this even possible in Reaper?
If not, why is Reaper not using GPU acceleration by default?

Thanks. I don't have NVidia for graphics, only intel.
but I noticed it says "As Flux:: plugins require OpenGL 2.0 to work, you may have to allow or force your DAW to use your Nvidia graphics instead of using the onboard intel graphics chipset."
key point "require OpenGL 2.0 to work" ... I'm guessing Reaper does not have this.
Also thanks for the forum links, what I got out of it was that these forum members were hopeful of GPU acceleration in v6.0 - but alas, we did not get it.

VSTs with OpenGL work perfectly in Reaper.
A different thing is that Reaper doesn't use any HW Acceleration for drawing the program itself,
and for that it uses a basic GDI API, not OpenGL.
But again, it has always (or as long as I remember) been compatible with any VST plug that uses OpenGL.
The problem is probably in Flux's side,
but what can you expect from such an ego-driven company..
Their plug-ins are interesting, good looking, and they do the job..
But they're often overcomplicated, while being limited or lacking key features at the same time,
I tried using them but in the end I always found better alternatives..
PS: Also I'm pretty sure your Intel Graphics must be compatible with OpenGL to a good extent,
just like Any GPU sold since the mid 90's when SGI fell, and 3dfx/Nvidia/Ati cards came along..
(this is not a new elusive technology..)
BTW I cannot reproduce the error here,
all plugs work OK, but ofc I'm using an ancient AMD card.

Your graphic card needs to have it.
Here's a program with which you can check which OpenGL versions it can provide:

I don't know if this is the issue with this plugin, but I recall that some plugins don't load some Windows graphics libraries themselves, which is a bug that may not appear in other hosts because those hosts happen to have already loaded those graphics libraries for themselves. I think this was an issue with gdiplus.dll specifically, which REAPER doesn't use.

I've just tested all Flux plugins, and I cannot reproduce the problem,
they work Perfectly with Reaper 6.18, Windows 7 x64 and an AMD HD5450 card..

Sounds like their way of not dealing with the problem.
easier to put the ball in the other court!
But it may not be their problem or Reapers, as other are saying they do not have this problem.
It may be a setting (unintentionally & unaware) that you may have done, that's causing this problem?

Has a solution been found yet as I also have the same problem in Win10 and Intel graphics?

Hi, I have open GL and the issue is that I can open and use all of the Flux plugins no problem but if I close the window and re-open then the interfaces are not redrawing.

Have you tried running the plugin in it's own process etc ... access these items from the FX browser, and right-click on the plugin name.
I have some plugins which give a blank interface, but when closed and opened again (via the plugin chain on the track), come up with the correct interface.

Thanks for this suggestions, I'd like to try this but I can't see which setting in the right-click menu you are talking about.
All I can see is here (attached).

you need to be in the fx browser, not the fx chain

Thanks.
That didn't work though, unfortunately.
When I open the plugin interface a second time it reverts to being blank.

Of course it does make sense for certain plugins that are intended to show a very fancy 3D GUI, to use Open GL for this.
Butz in that case the purchasing docs should clearly state, that the graphics card and drivers need to support Open GL.
Changing the Graphics cart might help. See here -> https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=222728&page=3

Thanks, but what's the explanation for it opening with normal GUI the first instance, but then blank GUI every time it's opened after that?

Like I said, I find that some old Waves plugins (32-bit) open with a blank interface, but closing it and opening again (opening via the fx chain, NOT re-inserting it), gives the interface again.
I have no idea why this happens now, it didn't used to many many versions back. No real problem, just 2 more mouse clicks now and then.
Does it come back if you close the blank interfaced version and open it again? (As per my Waves plugins).
did you try all the various "run as ..." options?

Thank you and Workaround suggestion
Hi folks, thank you for all of the suggestions made. I have tried pretty much everything and the problem still persists. Everything is up to date and running open GL4 or higher now, I forget lol
Workaround solution I have found is using the plugins inside DDMF Metaplugin. Whether this will work in other 'hosting' plugins or our Reaper version of the blue cat chainer I don't know but maybe worth a try.
Thanks again
Gary

Of course using a Metaplugin makes finding the cause of such an issue by far more complicated.
