Trouble with ASIO
Greetings Reaper Forum,
I´m having some issues with ASIO not loading properly. I am currently setting up a PC with Reaper and everything was running smoothly up until yesterday. All of a sudden Reaper started saying that my ASIO driver could not be found, so I re-installed my Audiobox soundcard, that Im using until I can sort out a FireWire connection that works with win10 (looking at Startech 2 port 1394a now).
After I reinstall the Audiobox drivers and reboot, everything is perfect. The problem is that I have to go through it every time I want to use Reaper, even after the computer just goes for a nap. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help is appreciated,
Espen

Old IT rule of thumb when something like that happens is to ask "What changed"?
Did anything new get installed or updated since the last time it worked?

Hi Toleolu,
That is a great advice. I am backtracking my latest installations, Reaper, BattleNet and Steam, but I can´t find anything wrong there.
I have three soundcards though, one on the motherboard, one is a PCIe card and finally the AudioBox. I was trying out a headset with a microphone before the whole incident happened, so Im thinking there might have been some auto config going on when I was trying out where I was supposed to plug in the headphones.
Anyway, it works when I do the Presonus installation before I start Reaper. I guess I´ll figure it out once I get to know win10 a bit more.
Thanks again for the good advice,
Espen

Have you tried just replugging the presonus...sometimes a device loses connection or fails to connect at startup but a power cycle of the device will do it once WIn is up and running.
And you should disable usb selective suspend in advanced power settings and the usb hub power saving options in device manager. That may just be your fix.

You might check your Device settings in Preferences.
I've got a Presonus interface, and in my Device preferences, for Audio System I have ASIO selected, then below that there is ASIO Driver. The pull down menu for that lists a number of ASIO drivers, and I select the Presonus ASIO driver.
That gives me my inputs as Mic/Inst 1 and 2 and output on Main Out Left and Right. I've got monitor speakers connected to my interface.
I could be wrong about this, but it's my understanding that Reaper doesn't really care what you have installed on your computer, it's only going to look for what's set in the Device Preference settings.
The onboard and PCI audio you mentioned, do you use any of that for recording or playback?

Hi again, sorry for the late reply. I have just gotten used to installing the driver after I boot, so by pure laziness I haven´t fixed anything yet
The other soundcards are not used I think, they were there whenI bought the PC. I will try the unplug trick next time I forget to re-install the driver. It was really easy to just get into the habit of going through the install every time I use the PC, but its no permanent fix, I see that. Anyway, things works, just a little unwieldy...

What is the pci-e interface?
You may well find it is better than that Presonus!
If not, just remove it from the computer & uninstall all it`s associated softweare, drivers, etc. Can`t hurt and it will probably help.

Hi guys, thx for all the replies!
I switched it with an old m audio card that still worked, and that solved everything. I had almost discarded it because it had stopped working on my old mac, but luckily I didn´t.

Being realistic, firewire was quickly on the way out mostly because PC developers didnt pick it up as quickly or as well as Mac devs did. The majority of us rank & filers are of course on PCs, so firewire was always going to be iffy on a PC, same as thunderpants or whatever its called is today. And of course THAT is now on the way out for similar reasons.
The future is usbC !!!
(until the Next Big Thing shows up on Apple comupters)

My future is fucking all this off
The level of waste in 'old' interfaces that still work absolutely fine is not something I'm too keen on.
