(Hope this is the right place to post this, since I'm not sure what is in the beta & what isn't!)
I love that we can copy & paste track and item/take fx thanks to the extensions - to be able to do this to multiple tracks/items at all is great news, so I hope this won't look ungrateful to ask/suggest a couple of things....
1) Would it be at all possible to make a selection/focus-dependent copy and paste so a single "copy fx" and a single "paste fx" action could be mapped to cover track fx and take fx? Not only would it mean only 2 custom mappings rather than 4, but also provide a way to copy fx transparently between the two chain types.
Often I would like to be able to take track fx and paste them to a number of items on the same track (before removing the chain from the track) - or paste a specific chain across a combination of different tracks and items. That type of usage would become very easy if this were made possible. I suppose it depends whether chain types can be converted on the fly.
2) If selected fx on the clipboard (copied from the chain window itself) could be pasted directly it would add extra functionality - probably even more of a pain though? :/
If not, well, hey the functionality is already helping!
Cheers,
Drew

cycling actions won't work
Ok, great feature, but of course I'm stuck on my first try already..lol.
I tried to make a cycling action where the first part hides & mutes unselected tracks and the second part brings them back. I created two custom actions and entered their ID numbers into the Create cycling action screen, but when I hit OK I got a nag screen:
Quote:
S&M - Error
Command id (or custom id)'cb64fa3b3626f5' not found in the action section 'Main'!
|
This is not correct, the said custom action is in the Main section. Both custom actions will also work when triggered separately.
Next I tried entering all the separate actions from both custom actions into the Create cycling action screen. Since not all of them fit the boxes available, I finished by editing the S&M.ini (after closing Reaper). This way I got the first part of the cycling action to work but not the second, that one won't do anything.
Here are all the actions I used to make the two custom actions:
Quote:
Hide/mute unselected tracks 1c3fedb43a374f
SWS: Toggle (invert) track selection 53739
SWS: Save current track selection 53737
SWS: Disable master/parent send on selected track(s) 53710
SWS: Hide selected track(s) 53229
Show/unmute hidden tracks cb64fa3b3626f5
SWS: Show all tracks 53237
SWS: Restore saved track selection 53738
SWS: Enable master/parent send on selected track(s) 53709
Track: Unmute tracks 40731
Track: Unselect all tracks 40297

Thanks for the tip! Yes I did try first following all the different instructions and then trying anything I could imagine.
Once working, this cycling action and an another custom action will make it really easy to compare between any two selected tracks....now I'm still with three action buttons to do that.

Or on your second approach, did you try it temporary with Cmd ID's ? (after creating the cycling action countercheck the ID's of the actions in the ini with the ones in the action list)

Done that also. Thanks for the suggestions though, tonight I will check those once again. If not working, I'll wipe all away and create everything anew, actions and all.
Edit: Ok, thanks again Veto for the countercheck suggestion. One corrected number was all it took, it works now! But only by editing the S&M.ini, entering the custom action IDs into cycling action screen still no go, same nag. checking further...

Nope, deleting the old custom actions and creating them new didn't help. Got new IDs of course, but after entering them into screen, it still nags about the second custom action;

I'm not sure if this is a bug or feature request, and I did put it on the official tracker (as a FR), but I wanted to make mention of it somewhere in the forums too.
I love that I can format text in sws notes. however, If I leave one note and come back to it, it looses text size and color information if there is more than one in play. see video:

I think this is probably a reaper item notes limitation since you can't do this in the standard reaper item notes editor (does it work properly for track notes since these are SWS?)
It would be great if you could make a FR for this as I would definitely vote!
Would be an amazingly helpful thing to have especially since item notes may eventually be able to be displayed on the video window (like arrange page images now can be)

Whoops
I meant the problem is most likely Cockos related and not SWS but be interesting to see what Tim or Jeffos say on the matter
I also said Reaper's side because then I hope Justin and Schwa might put in the ability for item notes to store this info so we can have lovely coloured and varied size/style writing for notes.
If SWS can do it though then that would also be very cool!

I haven't read the whole thread through so I have a question:
Can you make a default so that every new track has a different color? But not items within track, I mean every item would be the same colour in that particular track.

SWS autocolor will auto color your tracks then the clips will take on the color of the track they are on
i'm sure there is much more it can do but this is how my setup is

several colours of awesome!
Just started testing and good so far!
Jeffos, a challenge for you, when searching track names could the auto zoom some how zoom horizontally to fit the tracks items into view too, could be tricky for multiple tracks though but would help a bit I think
Also maybe there should be a little "X" button that clears the text box but ALSO undoes the zoom in too.

Small thing I've just noticed.
The "find in item names" function seems to secretly "call" the track that item is on which should be fine but it causes my alphatrack (single channel strip) to reselect that track every time I use the next or previous buttons in the find window which causes the fader to go to zero and back up again.
I can see there probably isn't a way to change this and it's not a major thing but thought I'd mention it
Lastly, would you consider a tick box to allow zooming to each item as you use the next and previous buttons?

@SWS/Jeffos
There is this action: Xenakios/SWS: Select first items of selected tracks
I need something similar just for track instead of items: Select first track of selected items
EDIT: Solved....see next page

ok something pretty weird happens with Left/Right env actions:
steps:
1. create new custom action
2. add these 2 actions:
SWS/S&M: Set active take pan envelopes to 100% left
SWS/S&M: Set active take pan envelopes to 100% right
3. give a name and click ok to save/close
4. click on edit to edit that custom action again
5. click ok
6. repeat steps 4 and 5 and see what happens.
see this gif:

@drew
1) sounds a bit specific
[EDIT] ^^ forget that, I misunderstood.. good idea, drew!
2) I wanted to too.. but you can't do that and you can't drag'n'drop to fx button either with the current API (confirmed by Cockos)
@xpander
from where I am, I'd say your macro's custom ids are wrong: ffa679a238f327 is way too short for a custom id and those ids always begins with '_', for ex: _7fe76172a55b5c448df075d169e69f83
to ease cycle actions edition, a dedicated window might come at some point (with a "learn" action feature).
in the meantime, here's a (windy) way you can copy/paste those ids from mars: open the action list, open the Notes/Help view + select "action help" in the dropdown box, select your macro in the action window
=> the custom id is displayed and can be copied
@mbn
first, I'm a bit late but thanks for the beers!
Then, don't you think your real prob with the alphatrack is that it only features a single fader !? (j/k: not a biggie and not sure I can prevent CSurf feedback.. will look though, could be interesting..)
@reflected
confirmed! thanks for the report. fix coming soon..

Thanks Jeffos, you got it, the custom IDs were not full lenght! I've never used custom IDs before and didn't realize what was showing in the screen (ie._ffa679a238f327 was not the whole ID...especially since I already had extended the screen to supposedly show everything and the nag was always about the second custom action not being found. Ah, excuses, lol. Now after some tricky tab dragging exercise I managed to get the whole IDs to show.
Thanks for the copying tip also, with that long IDs that will come handy!

Hi guys,
I'm just putting the SWS extensions into v4. When I try to install it it wont let me, saying 'Please select a valid REAPER installation folder'.
I'm using BETA 8 on a portable instal. My understanding was that it goes in the REAPER\Plugins folder. However it wont let me put it there. In fact as far as I've tried it wont let me put it anywhere.
What's the trick?

I sorted it out in a circular kind of way..
I installed it into a regular instal REAPER and went and dragged it out of there.
For future reference is there a better way?

I had the same thing.
Here it's because the SWS installer automatically adds "\Reaper" to my actual install location. So I have Reaper 4 installed at "C:\Program Files\Reaper 4" but the SWS installer defaults to "C:\Program Files\Reaper 4\Reaper" and doesn't let me install. If I delete the "\Reaper" manually it's all good. So the correct install here is simply "C:\Program Files\Reaper 4" (it puts it in the plugins folder automatically)

Hey,
SWS v2 installer has changed to just ask for a valid reaper install dir because browsing to <reaperdir>\Plugins was confusing people who didn't know about Reaper's internal folder structure. The side effect is it confuses people who *do* know about the Plugins directory. Basically the Next button is available when reaper.exe exists in the listed folder (which is nabbed from the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Reaper) and the installer puts the DLL in that dir + \Plugins. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Reaper is populated by the native Reaper installer, but the Reaper installer doesn't change the registry when you click "portable".
By posting this perhaps I've confused even more!

I'm curious.
What happens when I save a marker set ?
And do i need to select all the markers to save ?
Because I tried, after a long time, to save a marker set in one session and load it in to another, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to do it.
The "Save Marker Set" command is available in the context menu of the marker list window, but the "Load marker set" command is not. Woho. Why hide it in the extension menu ?
And then, as I'm trying to load the saved marker set in to another session, the "Load Marker Set" command cheefully claims that there are no marker sets to load.
Well I'll be. How does this system work ?
In the end I had to copy one set from the source session and paste it in to another marker list window of another session. I'm pretty sure text editors don't JUST work like that for a very good reason.

Airon,
Save marker set saves a snapshot of the current markers to the project file. Once you've saved a set, the load command shows up on the context menu.
If you want to copy markers to another project, then use marker set copy/paste.

Interesting. The fact that the marker set is in fact not saved to a separate file is worth noting. I wouldn't have guessed it would save itself to the project file, ever I'm forced to admit. I figured it was part of the project file anyway and snapshots didn't occur to me.
At the very least, it's worth considering less ambiguous descriptions.
"Save snapshot of all markers to session file" for example.
And you may want to include the Load command in the context menu, because the Extension/Marker Utilities menu is replicated in the context menu, except for the Load command.

Cool, yeah that makes perfect sense. I was navigating all the way to the /plugins directory that was one step more than required as that would have been added automatically. Slightly confusing as I knew where the dll had to go but it wouldn't let me put it there. Anyhow, I've got it now.
I just bought a new interface with multiple outs and without your extensions I wouldn't have been able to do that which I bought it for, so thanks! You saved it from being a wasted purchase.
All the best.

Posted beta v2.0.0 #28:
Fixed duplicated "take pan envelopes" actions
Fixed subtle "recursive cycling action" cases (e.g. a cycle action that calls a macro that calls a cycle action)
Added actions:
+SWS/S&M: Copy FX chain (depending on focus)
+SWS/S&M: Paste FX chain (depending on focus)
+SWS/S&M: Paste (replace) FX chain (depending on focus)
+SWS/S&M: Cut FX chain (depending on focus)
S&M Find: added "Zoom/Scroll" option (when searching for items)
S&M Resources:
The view now also manages project templates (i.e. new option in top left dropdown box)!
Added related actions:
+SWS/S&M: Select/load project template, slot n - where 'n' is in [1; 10]
+SWS/S&M: Select/load project template, prompt for slot
+SWS/S&M: Select/load project template (new tab), slot n - where 'n' is in [1; 10]
+SWS/S&M: Select/load project template (new tab), prompt for slot
Added options/popup menu items common for FX chains, track template & project templates:
+Display current auto-save path
+Set auto-save directory to default resource path
+Set auto-save directory to project path (/FXChains, TrackTemplate or ProjectTemplates)
House cleaning: simplified a bunch of actions names (i.e. "Load/apply", "Load/paste", etc.. => "Apply", "Paste", etc..)

Correct. I don't see any chance soon of making the clipboard work externally to Reaper in OSX without Cockos/WDL help. Instead I'll have to make export/import markerlist actions.
