Default Should I upgrade OSX?

I'm still on 10.9 - Mavericks. I've put off upgrading as I have the feeling it will result in lots of hassle with other plug ins, hardware etc....though I may be wrong. So should I upgrade? Thanks.

I'm on Mavericks too. Everything I need works. I see no need to upgrade.

We're no doubt with different 3rd party things but after sticking with Yosemite long after the next systems were out I purchased a 2015 refurb MBP that had El Capitan installed so I just went with it, and have had no DAW hardware or software related issues I can remember. Currently on 10.11.6. OTOH, there's nothing about it that makes me specifically glad I'm on it. Nearly everything Apple has updated in recent years has to do with things I care nothing about, or even avoid. One thing of note is that most net communication has improved somewhat but Mail is definitely worse. Finder is a little more finicky. But I don't have any problems with any audio working in 10.11.6. I have no desire to go to Sierra.

It might be a good idea to have a dual boot drive. It won't be too long before some necessary software won't support Mavericks, though it won't be Reaper : )

Thanks both. I don't use any Apple software other than the browser and email so I will stay as I am for now.

Apple's Mail program is one program I avoid at all cost. I have fixed too many user installations that kept going awry again and again.

And like VDUbreeze, I'm not interested in things like the cloud, messaging..

About the only "modern" Apple thing I use is Time Machine. Everything else is 3rd party. From REAPER over TextWrangler, my database programs...
