Default Tint strength has big influence on solid background for item label

When "selitem_tintalpha=" and "unselitem_tintalpha=" in Reaper.ini is set to 4 for both values, solid background for item label gets same color like item_takecolor and mediatem background colors have no effect on the solid background. Even in Default6Theme.

This means the appearance of the solid background is very unpredictable, because it's dependent on the grayed out settings in Preferences_Appearance_Peaks/Waveforms/Tint strength, which is nothing else than the already mentioned values from the Reaper.ini and there's no other way of getting influence on that on a regular usage.
By changing to a PreReaper5Theme, those values could change and would stay, also switched back to the Default6Theme.

I guess, decouple it from tintstrength and adding a blend mode under Theme development tweaker for >= Version5.0Themes would be a solution?

If I remember exactly, by experimenting with tinttcp values much greater than 2000, it had influence on tintstrength. But that's a dare assumption.

What to do?

An explanation of custom colouring for themers is HERE.

From your mentioned thread:

"Optional Preference grey-out

If you are using the V5 method, obviously the legacy tint controls in the user preferences won't have any effect on your theme, since these factors are now achieved by the user editing the transparency of the images, or you providing pre-edited images for them to swap between.

To signify that those preferences won't have any effect, you can grey them out by adding the line 'tinttcp 0' to your rtconfig.txt. 100% of users will understand what that greying-out signifies, and it won't cause any of them concern or confusion. Trust me. Anyone who says that greying-out preferences was a cockup is fake news."

So why have the tintstrength settings still effect on the appearance of the solid background for item labels in the Default6Theme?

The old method is unpredictable, the new method doesn't have the label tinting. If you've been changing things in the rtconfig (perhaps following an ill-advised thread) then you can end up where both methods are trying to work at once, is that what's happened?

For a modern theme, don't remove the 'Version 5' or higher or mess with the tinttcp setting. Just leave them alone, unless you're having fun with the weirdness that will ensue, in which case of course please do have fun But be aware that the two aren't supposed to work together, so whatever happens, no matter how strange, its not a bug. Do you follow what I mean?

Thanks for your reply.

As I mentioned in the first post and as can be seen in the pictures, this behavior happens with the regular and untouched Default6Theme.
Answer to your first question: No, not at all!
No modification to the DefaultTheme. Nothings changed.
So it's not a theming problem!

Answer to your second question: Well, while I have real fun with studying certain corners of reapers great possiblities of configurations, I couldn't see much weirdness in the behavior. Maybe sometimes something works against each other, but I think flexibility is in general an idea about Reaper.
So no, I can't follow what you mean and have to rely on my first answer:
No modification to the DefaultTheme. Nothings changed.

It all belongs to the preference:

ReaperPreferences/Appearance/Media- "Draw labels over solid background for easier reading".

Again, as you can see in the pictures from my second post, the grayed-out tint strength settings still has influence on the appearance of the labels solid background when the preference is ticked.
That's what I want to report.

Please White Tie, give this a try:
You can easily achieve this (without editing the Reaper.ini) by switching to the "regular" installed "Default_4.0 + width"-theme, set the tintstrength settings to 4 and just switch back to the Default6 Theme.
By tick/untick the preference "Draw labels over solid background for easier reading" you see no solid background ticked or unticked.

At least, I wanna say, it's not true, that all grayed-out preferences have no effect on the appearance of reaper.
In my opinion, a blend mode for this in the theme tweaker would be a good solution.

Another solution would be to say: No support for PreDefault5Themes anymore.
But I don't want to take the responsibility for that :-)

May I ask you, is my non-native English so bad to read?

I'm so sorry, I was about to ask you to post some screenshots when I saw that you had but they hadn't loaded. I was looking at the wrong thing, my apologies, and you're absolutely correct. I see what you mean and I agree its a bug.

Your English is great.

Hey White Tie, all good.

I'm sorry that I didn't get on the point with my first post, but I'm happy that the time invested led to the root of the problem.

If it's really Reaper's bug, then it's better to fix in it rather than try to workaround it in scripts somehow.

Can it be addressed to the devs please? Hope that's not hard to fix.
