Default To Reamp - Buy a passive preamp or Loopback Audio Interface?

Hi all,

Many newer audio interfaces have a loopback function, my older one doesn't.
Could I use loopback instead of a buying a passive preamp (like Radial ProRPM) - i.e just get a newer audio interface instead of coughing for the preamp?

Am I overlooking something?

Cheers in advance

Loopback function of an interface doesn't send any audio out of the interface so can't help with reamping in any way.

Yeah, you need an interface simply with enough outputs. If you only have a stereo pair of outputs for example, then you would have to disconnect one of your monitors to use that output for the reamp output. Which you could still do, FYI!

Get an interface with more outputs and then you can leave your monitors hooked up.

A loopback feature returns an output from the computer to the loopback "input" channel of the interface. That lets you route audio elsewhere on the computer without using a virtual device. It's often redundant.

Ok, thanks for replies all.

Yeah, I will need a Reamp added to my list of things I don't really NEED but will probably end up getting anyway, just because... dopamine.

Default Nothing

You need nothing more than a output of any interface.
connect it to the input of the amp.
The interface output is normal a Line output.
Reduce the volume of that output signal to where it is useful.
Otherwise its too loud.
A outboard Preamp makes no sense as the signal is anyway much stronger than a guitar itself.
You more need a PAD filter plug.
