Default Sforzando vs Aria Sound Engine?

Is Aria Sound Engine a completely different sampler/player than Sforzando?

The info isn't clear. I don't understand.

I think they use the same engine. Why do you ask?

I just wondered if instruments made for Aria can also work in Sforzando.

I would think that they would only work in the licensed Player.

sforzando is a free, highly SFZ 2.0 compliant sample player so it will load SFZ instruments. But instruments from the Garritan products are .audio files and do not look like SFZ format (probably encrypted).

Hi DS, I've got Garritan JABB3, which is an Aria player, and it looks quite similar in many ways to Sforzando so I think there is a link of some sort.

However, I think Aria is a player that is only used by developers that buy into it. But I could be wrong, what do you think DS.

I agree. as far as I can see they both use the same software engine.

However, have a look at a .sfz file - it is readable text. Then look at any of your JABB instrument files - they may well contain sfz data but are encrypted. I guess that JABB 3 (or another licensed Garritan product?) is needed to decode them.

So it is suspicious/confusing? It's not just me?

No, it is not suspicious or confusing.

What makes you think that.

Sforzando uses the ARIA Engine. So do Garritan's commercial products. The encryption is to prevent the Garritan sounds being used for free.

I guess that makes sense. It seemed weird to have one free and the other not when they're the same thing basically.

But not really:

In Halion (Sampler of Cubase Steinberg) we have free libraries, and
we have licensed libraries. The first can be loaded free into
halion, the later can only be loaded only if the licence is respected.

In Kontakt Player or Kontakt Full (NI) we have free libraries, and
we have licensed libraries. The first can be ... (see above)

In Sforzando we have free libraries, and we have licensed libraries.
