Default Intel compute stick as an everyday horsepower for Reaper?

Hey, I was wondering if ICS can handle basic things in Reaper like 4-5 track editing with 7 to 10 built-in plugins per project enabled? Or if you have any experience with a low end PC configurations that would be nice to hear as well.

Should do that very easy, the Atoms are actually quite powerful, as long as you stay away from super heavy synths you should be fine.

That's cool shit.

"I brought my rig. Let me plug it in." pulls stick from pocket.

The problem is storage...

You can use the one USB3 port for a disk and the other USB2 port for an interface. That leaves no port for KB/mouse, so you'd need to add a hub. Some USB interfaces don't work with hubs.

Can you see the kit expanding to a lot of wires, power supplies and other goodies?

Intel® Remote Keyboard

This free new app for Android* and iOS* allows users to wirelessly connect to the Intel® Compute Stick with a smartphone or tablet and use it as a keyboard and mouse.

Interesting, to say the least.

I am not so worried about storage as it can be expanded with virtual drives over wifi or SD card. I am very worried about the small size of RAM that these devices have. There are options to go with 1 or 2 GB of RAM. This is the biggest bottleneck so far I think.

The purpose of this stick would be to create simple workplaces for students to do basic tasks like editing or working with simple VSTs. It doesn't need to have a lot of storage or the fastest processor, but it shouldn't be lagging on very simple operations like these. So for example if I edit 2-3 files per project I shouldn't wait 1-2 seconds before the playback. This process should be as quick as possible on this configuration.

Maybe I should expand my question a bit: how good is Reaper with 1 or 2 GBs or RAM?

My brother has 3GB on his PC with Core 2 Duo processor and said it handles Reaper quite good. And I am not sure that this will continue with 1GB of RAM.

Reaper is pretty good with 2 gigs of RAM, but if you can get ICS with 4 gigs of RAM it'll be perfect for the scope of things you want to do, methinks.

Reaper flies with 1gb of RAM, i used to run a 512mb atom netbook as an 8 track recorder, worked fine.

A bit late but I'm using a no name compute stick with a steiny ur44 ..
The spec what I have are
32 gb storage
2gb ddr3
1 usb3
1 micro USB2
HDMI
Atom x5 z8350
It was 165 aus dollars ..

I've run a test with it ..
It ran with no hiccups at 64 samples buffer and 0 ms under pre buffer settings (default is 1200)
Sws region playlist mode
16 track multiplayback
With 4 mono groups/hardware direct outs
A very responsive multitrack playback system for live stage use

I ran another test .
All inputs armed (6 physical )
On record ..
Then
Overdubbed another stereo armed track
(The pre buffer setting started to hiccup so I defaulted back to 1200 )

There are some 7inch touchscreen monitors going for 100 bucks so I was thinking of making a small chassis for the touch screen to give me a little portable recording playback system ...
So not a everyday workhorse but more of a specific dedicated system ...
