Default Reaper LV2 plug-in support

Hi!

Even though I know this may have been discussed before in some threads I'd like to ask if there are any plans to add support for LV2 plug-ins in Reaper.

I think the situation for open-source plug-in developers is not really satisfying in the moment with the non-free Steinberg VST SDK.

Best,
Matthias

LV2 is an open standard not bound to any operating system. ardour and mixbus support it on osx and windows as well as on linux. guis are possible as well.

but you are right, the naming is a problem. when introducing an open standard you may think about not using vocabulary which suggest to be limited to one platform.

I knew VST is by Steinberg, but in which way do you have to pay to develop them? I am thinking about doing so one day.

you don't have to pay but you have to register and accept their license.
therefore it is not really free and incompatible with the gpl license.
you are not allowed to distribute binaries of your vst plugins if you use gpl code because you can't include the steinberg sdk into your repository due to their license. this has been discussed in countless forums already.

therefore a real free solution for audio plug-ins would be nice and lv2 seems to be the only attempt so far. but some more hosts have to jump into that boat to make it worth developing plugins for it.

LV2 support would be awesome.

I'm beginning to work with some Linux audio projects, and I would love to have access to the same plugins and instruments on both sides (Linux/Mac)...

Both Ardour and Audacity seem to support it correctly, but I don't know how difficult would it be to integrate it inside Reaper engine...

Why LV2?

I would like to revive this FR for consideration since now REAPER has an official Linux version.

It's not yet official, it's in beta still.

It will be official when you can see it here: https://www.reaper.fm/download.php

So? Reaper also supports DX (Windows-only) and AU (Mac-only).
