For goodness sakes! why no automation for the Solo button on the mixer ?
Why no automation for the Solo button on the mixer ? i could really do with this function to do my live mixing, surely this function can be added to Reaper with the same ease as the mute button automation, please can this issue be resolved, my apologies if i sound a bit rude but i am a bit frustrated about this.

You can MIDI learn actions for individual track solos for the time being.

Maybe you're right, but it's not a bug definitely.

Many thanks for chiming in guys, i would have thought solo automation would have been implemented at the same time as when mute automation was implemented in Reaper, we all have different workflows and i mix my tracks live and spontaneous (King Tubbys style)so i hope that the Reaper developers will consider this for all the live mix producers out there when they do their next Reaper update :-)

I don't think you should hold your breath. Mute is automatable because it pertains to that particular track. Solo doesn't pertain to the track its on - it affects all OTHER tracks, which is not how automation works in Reaper (or any other DAW, AFAIK) in general.
You have actions to solo first 100 tracks. You can use MIDI learn or OSC to toggle these. You don't really need host automation to do what you want.

Greetings EvilDragon.
I recently jumped ship from Synapse Audio Orion which can perform the automated Solo function and that application is well over 15 years old, unfortunately support and development has ended on the product and it's behavior is unstable for the plugins that i need to use, Reaper is an excellent replacement for Orion, i have found it to be very stable and can be configured to my needs, if an old application like Orion can perform the automated Solo i would like to think that REAPER - AUDIO PRODUCTION WITHOUT LIMITS should be also able to do the same.

It appears, solo can be automated in not so many sequencers.
In one or two, perhaps.
One of them is Logic.

Looks (deceptively) simple.
Still, actions on pressing the solo button cannot be recorded.
And the question is a decade old:

There might be some workaround ... with a use of a folder track, I should guess...

Get acquainted with Action List and all that it can do. MIDI executing actions cannot be recorded, though, AFAIK.

Many thanks for the guidance.
Being unable to record Solo in Reaper will have an impact on my spontaneity when i do a live mix, i just hope that the Reaper developers will come up with a plan for this issue.

Got to agree with Megawatt. Automation of the Solo button would be great for those of us that like to experiment. Just played back a track that I had started yesterday and found that, for the start of the track, soloing a particular channel (an fx return) then soloing a couple of other tracks before unsoloing all these channels created a great intro. Difficult to recreate using other methods when taking into account that I want to route audio from unsoloed tracks to the fx return that I want to solo. Plus, very importantly, I don't want to lose my inspiration trying to work out ways around not being able to automate the Solo buttons. So what if it is not a common feature on other DAWS? If it allows users more room for experimentation and doesn't hinder those who won't use it then what's the problem?
